- Hydrology, activities and organisation

River discharge is determined at regular time periods, and, when necessary, in emergency situations, by currentmeter and field measurements. Data are entered into the computer, checked and stored. Automatic devices are being introduced, directly and continuously transferring data to the IT system.

The water level of rivers and lakes is determined by water-level staff. Data are read by non-professional observers, entered into the observation log and when measurements are completed the log is sent to the MHS Hydrological Department by mail. The levels are entered into the computer, checked and stored. Automatic devices are being introduced, connected to the IT system and used for flood prevention activities and data collection.

Runoff is determined by calculation and is used for operational purposes and analyses.

Current speed is determined by instruments and calculations from field measurements. Data are entered into the computer, checked, stored and used for operational purposes and subsequent analyses. Continuous measurements are performed by automatic devices connected to the IT system.

Ground water level is measured from wells. Observers measure the level three times a day and record it in the log. At the end of each month, the log is forwarded to MHS by mail; data are entered into the computer, checked and stored. Automatic devices connected to the IT system are used, continuously measuring ground water level. Data are used for operative and other purposes.
