The 'Coca-Cola' Football League podcast made its debut yesterday to rave reviews and shot straight in at the top of the iTunes sporting podcasts.

It quickly established itself as the number one sport and recreation podcast after its launch and has now broken into the top 10 for all podcasts, currently sitting in eighth position overall - ahead of podcasts from names like Jonathon Ross, Chris Moyles and Fighting Talk.

This free service for supporters of all Football League clubs is available every Thursday right through to the end of the season and is hosted by BBC Radio Five Live's 'Voice of The Football League' Mark Clemmit.

Clem has certainly been impressed with the early uptake on the new podcast and reflecting on its immediate success he told football-league.co.uk:

"I am blown away by it to be honest. We all knew that there would be a good following from the 72 Football League clubs but this is far bigger than we could have ever imagined. To top the sports podcast chart after just one day is fantastic but to be the ninth most downloaded podcast overall is unbelievable - power to the Football League!

"I had a lot of fun recording the first show, it shows how many fantastic stories there are out there. The story about the Lincoln striker Adrian Patulea was brilliant, where else would you hear something like that and where else would you get a Manager sitting with you for half an hour for a chat, another Manager ringing up with holiday tips and a player inviting you round to his house.

"This is what football is all about, it's great that you get to see the real football from the real characters of the game."

Between now and the end of the season the Coca-Cola Football League Podcast will feature all 72 League clubs, so make sure you listen to the show this week and every week.
