Youve
unpacked the car, had the emotional goodbyes with the folks, and
youre now wondering WHERE ON EARTH AM I?
Sheffield,
thats where, the city of dreams (and hills), in the heart of South
Yorkshire.
Still
a bit lost? Read on, my friend

First off its the landmark weve all come to know and love, quite
possibly the most endearing high-rise youll ever find, the University
of Sheffields Arts Tower.
But
why is it so crucial to Sheffield, I hear you cry? Just
wait till you get lost. Functional, beautiful, and an excellent
navigational aid. Whod have thought it when they built it?

B brings two parts of Sheffield that will endear anyone to it
its sport, and its music. First off, Bramall Lane, the home
of Sheffield
United. Cracking atmosphere and die-hard supporters, its
easy to find, and theyve even been known to win!
Secondly,
theres Bed, with the best school disco in town (on a Wednesday
night) and some excellent club nights on throughout the week. Behind
the bike shed cliques aside, really quite a good night. Hmmm

for the Boardwalk?)

Sports fans and theatre fans meet in an unlikely combination - both
hold Sheffields own Crucible theatre close to their hearts.
Keep your eyes open and youll catch some top-notch productions
there, and occasionally some blokes playing a bit of snooker.

Music
fans of a more alternative variety will find themselves right at
home with Corporation home to all things rock in Sheffield,
whilst the Casbah offers another haunt for any aspiring indie
kids out there.

Any skater boys/girls will find themselves right at home at the
skate park on Devonshire Green, situated at the end of Division
Street, home to swish bars and the sort of shops you visit when
you feel youve got just too much money. Or maybe not enough.

For more choice in classy bars and restaurants, try the Ecclesall
road. Get your glad rags on, throw away the lock on your wallet,
and go out down here if you fancy mixing it with the beautiful people.

Two ends of the musical spectrum catered for here. Firstly, Sheffield
University run fantastic Fuzz Club showcases of local and
were-on-the-brink-of-being-signed bands of a rocky nature. There's
also a storming indie club. Every Thursday night at SUSU.

Meanwhile,
Flares, situated off Devonshire Street is a haven for those
of us who never quite got over the seventies. With cheese so thick
you can smell it a mile away, Flares is the quintessential dress
up silly and dance like your dad night out.

Is of course for Gatecrasher, Sheffield's very own and much-loved
superclub, which takes place in Gatecrasher One (formerly
The Republic). The heady mix of students, locals and cheap drinks
(oh, and a fairly decent mix of tunes) makes for a storming night
out any night of the week.

For those of us who prefer blue to red, Hillsborough is the
home of Sheffield
Wednesday, for more top class football entertainment.
For
all its recent problems, Wednesday still has a huge following including
possibly the coolest band in footballing history, relentless in
their pursuit of drumming up the crowd for a full 90 minutes.

When the time comes that the food has run out, the money is all
long gone, and you want a hug from your mum (or you might just want
to go somewhere else, of course) the Interchange will whisk
you away to wherever your heart desires, with coaches, taxis and
trains all readily available.
Bet
you come back, though...

Some of us will have forgotten all too quickly the musical delight
that was Hearsay, but their memory lives on in the form of Sheffields
very own Johnny Shentall (no idea? The one who took over
from Kym Marsh! Oh come on..)! The man, the legend, born in the
steel city.
Of
course, so were any number of other (slightly less talented) people
such as Michael Palin and Peter Stringfellow. Didnt I tell you
 Sheffield, the city of dreams!

Ever thought to yourself, 'If only there was a club that attracted
a few thousand people regularly, served cheap drinks, and had Chesney
Hawkes The One and Only on regular rotation'?
Kingdom
is for you, my friend. The spiritual home for all of you still hangin
on to the Westlife dream and willing to drink until youve forgotten
the words to everything.

Quite frankly the greatest club in the world (probably), the mighty
Leadmill is all things to all men. As well as varied club
nights throughout the week, any band you can think of will have
played here at some point, and the drinks are cheap. You will have
some of the best nights of your life here, no word of a lie.

Fancy shopping till your hands bleed and your legs cans take any
more? Meadowhall is for you! Quite frankly enormous, with
every shop you can think of, as well as a few you probably can't,
its a mammoth of a shopping centre. Im warning you though, overdrafts
only go so far
