OFF: Small Business Customer Manager Removed After Upgrade to Office XP Small Business Edition

Article ID:297876
Last Review:January 6, 2006
Revision:2.4
This article was previously published under Q297876

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Office XP Small Business Edition from Microsoft Office 2000, the Microsoft Small Business Customer Manager (SBCM) may be removed unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior is known to occur when you upgrade to Office XP Small Business Edition for the following languages:
•Brazilian
•Chinese Traditional and Simplified
•Czech
•Danish
•Dutch
•Finnish
•Italian
•Japanese
•Korean
•Norwegian
•Polish
•Portuguese
•Russian
•Spanish
•Swedish
This behavior occurs because Office XP Small Business Edition in these languages removes the SBCM during the installation of Office XP. The SBCM is not included with Office XP. However, the SBCM that ships with Microsoft Office 2000 can be used with Office XP when the Microsoft Small Business Tools 2000 patch is applied.

If you attempt to apply the Microsoft Small Business Tools 2000 patch after you perform the upgrade, the Small Business Tools 2000 patch does not reinstall SBCM.

NOTE: The SCBM is not removed when you upgrade to Office XP Professional or Office XP Professional Professional Plus FrontPage in these languages. The Small Business Tools 2000 patch must be applied for SBCM to work.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1.Insert CD2 of the Office 2000 CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
2.Enter the CD key, and then click Next.
3.Accept the End Users License Agreement, and then click Next.
4.Click Customize, and then click Next.
5.Set every feature on the feature tree to Not Available.
6.Click the arrow next to Microsoft Small Business Customer Manager.
7.Click Run from My Computer, and then click Install Now.
8.Follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard to complete the installation.
9.Install the Microsoft Small Business Tools 2000 patch.
10.Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
11.Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
12.Click Microsoft Office XP Small Business Edition, and then click Add/Remove.
13.Click Repair Office, and then click Next.
14.Click Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation.
15.Click to select the Restore my Start Menu Shortcuts check box, and then click Install.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
