Winter Trail Maintenance

Trail Grooming and Track Setting

Anchorage cross-country ski trails are groomed weekly throughout the winter with parallel tracks set to one side for Nordic Skiing. The width of the trail allows for multiple uses by other enthusiasts, such as skate skiers, runners, walkers, ski-jorers, etc. Grooming and track setting is accomplished with snow machines and various types of trail groomers and track setters. Trail conditions are usually excellent, but can vary due to a variety of weather conditions in certain locations.

Trail condition reports are usually updated on a weekly basis and published in the Anchorage Daily News. Information on trail conditions may also be obtained by calling the South and North Maintenance Sections
