UPCtv
and Zone Vision launch new channel: Reality TV
UPCtv announced today that Reality TV, a special
interest channel from UPCtv and Zone Vision, will
be launched across fifteen countries from December
1st. As real life TV grows in popularity and success,
Reality TV tunes into a previously untapped television
channel concept combining real life events with
quality documentaries, bringing the viewer closer
to the action. Reality TV is a joint venture between
UPCtv and Zone Vision, a London-based thematic
channel producer and distributor.
The channel will be available on UPC's own networks
from 1st December 1999 in the Netherlands, Belgium,
Austria and Norway between now and the end of
the year, to a total subscriber base of 2.4 million,
and will roll out to additional European countries
during 2000.
It
will also be available in Poland, Hungary, Czech
Republic, Slovakia, CIS, Baltic Republics, Romania
and the former Yugoslavia to over 1.1 million
subscribers. Reality TV is the seventh Zone Vision
channel, with Romantica (June 1998), Telewizje
Miejskie (July 1998), Le Cinema (March 1999),
E! Entertainment (April 1999), Midnight Blue (June
1999) and Fantastic TV (October 1999) already
available to cable subscribers in Europe.
Chris Wronski, President and CEO of Zone Vision,
remarked: "Real
life material and non-scripted programming is
now a major element in television schedules across
the world. Reality TV draws together the most
popular and highly rated programmes and we are
delighted that we can bring the channel, together
with UPCtv, to the public. "
About Zone Vision: In addition to the imminent
launch of Reality TV, Zone Vision currently broadcasts
six other channels making the company one of the
leading broadcasters of thematic channels in Europe.
The recent acquisition of a strategic share holding
in Quest TV added a further channel to the company's
roster. Zone Vision's channels are now available
in over 13 million homes and its broadcasting
activities are complemented by international programme
syndication, satellite channel representation
services plus language localisation and production
services.
With headquarters in London, Zone Vision is represented
by regional offices in Warsaw, Bucharest, Moscow,
Budapest, Prague, Sofia, Zagreb, Jerusalem and
Kiev, employing over 250 specialist personnel,
with advanced plans for further expansion into
a number of Western European countries. Since
1991 Zone Vision Group has developed a pre-eminent
market position as a distributor and broadcaster
of international satellite television channels
and programmes - in addition to serving as an
advisor on television broadcasting in Central
and Eastern Europe. Zone Vision is rapidly expanding
new business opportunities such as internet services,
media sales as well as provision of state-of-the-art,
pan-European, post-production facilities and language
versioning studios.
