"Give an agent a thousand ways to do something, and it'll pick the one you didn't want." Mick McNeil, founder and CEO of London-based https://hubs.ly/Q04zK4QZ0, learned that the hard way building his own AI agents. It's exactly the kind of lesson buried in our new guide with Salesforce. The startup agentic AI playbook, sponsored by Salesforce, draws on founders and CTOs across Europe who've already built, broken and rebuilt their first agents: how to pick a first task worth automating, when to keep a human in the loop and what actually separates a working system from an expensive demo. NEW: Daedalus, a German factory automation startup founded by former OpenAI technical lead Jonas Schneider, has entered insolvency proceedings, according to court filings.  An insolvency court in Karlsruhe, where Daedalus is based, opened proceedings into the company at the start of August. At the start of September, a court-appointed supervisor said Daedalus’s assets were unlikely to cover the debts it has run up since proceedings opened. The company is wholly owned by a Delaware-registered parent company, which is not party to the German proceedings. Schneider did not respond to multiple requests for comment as to whether the parent company was still solvent. More details here: https://lnkd.in/eUhagbdh

Bending Spoons has acquired more than 50 companies, including WeTransfer, Vimeo, Airtable and AOL. So when CEO Luca Ferrari explains why M&A fails, it's worth listening. Ferrari joined Miki Kuusi, cofounder and CEO of Wolt, on stage at Sifted Summit last week, alongside Sifted senior reporter Daphné Leprince-Ringuet. Ferrari on what makes deals go wrong: "M&A is guaranteed to fail if you don't have a very sharp definition of what you're trying to accomplish and a very clear plan of why you'll probably be able to accomplish that." "If you have someone running M&A, you're probably going to do M&A whether you should or not." — Kuusi on the risk of hiring someone to run M&A full-time, advice he took from an investor. 🔗 Dig into more of their insights here: https://lnkd.in/e3bizx5q ⬇️ Keen to continue the conversation on all things European tech? #WCW, except this week I have 100 of them... Last week at Sifted Summit, Sifted, STATION F and SISTAFUND unveiled the second edition of 100 Women in Tech in Europe. Partech supported the initiative this year alongside LinkedIn, and I got to join the launch conversation with Roxanne, Tatiana, Sophie and Florencia. We opened with numbers that still aren't pretty: all-female founding teams receive around 1% of European venture funding. The thought I keep coming back to is what happens after the list? Scout roles, board seats, speaking opportunities and angel investing all exist already. But the route to them is all too often opaque, and it usually comes down to who you know. A list like this puts 100 formidable women in front of people who didn't know (all of) them before. So why not make it a way in? And while we're at it, two lines I'd love our venture ecosystem to retire by next year: "the deal flow isn't there" and "we didn't see the deal flow." Lists like this make the first one harder to defend - more than half of this year's 100 are founders and cofounders. And with AI taking on more of the sourcing, fewer and fewer firms will (thankfully) be able to lean on the second. A special cheer for one of our portfolio CEOs, Hélène of The Exploration Company, who made the list in the same stretch as closing a $450M Series C, the largest ever for a European space company. Not bad for a few weeks. 🚀 HUGE congratulations to all 100 who made the list. Here’s to you continuing to be impossible to overlook! Help me out, LinkedIn brain trust…what should happen after the list? If you've ever been on one, what did it lead to, and what do you wish it had led to? 🤔
