Bath & Body Works’ New Essentials Collection Proves Sensitive Skin & Fragrance Can Coexist (& It’s Already on Sale)

Here's what's special about the scents and formulas, and why a dermatologist recommends them.

Bath & Body Works has become a household name thanks to its iconic scents. And with aromas that run the gamut—from gourmands like Warm Vanilla Sugar to florals like Japanese Cherry Blossom—there’s bound to be a scent for everyone. The catch? Some of these fragrances, and the formulas they come in, aren’t always the best match for sensitive skin. Now, Bath & Body Works’ Essentials collection is here to prove that sensitive skin and fragrance can coexist through brand-new body washes, body lotions, and eau de parfums. Featuring sheer scents, hypoallergenic formulas, and skin-replenishing, ultra-hydrating ingredients, the collection offers a gentler approach to fragranced body care.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Full Product Lineup

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Scents

Let’s start with the new sheer scents: Vanilla Silk, Cashmere Amber, and Suede Blossoms. All three are designed to feel personal and stay close to the body rather than announce themselves from across the room. They’re more subtle than some of Bath & Body Works’ cult-favorite fragrances, making them a great option for anyone who prefers a softer scent.

Vanilla Silk is for the warm, gourmand lovers. If you want to smell like a sweet cupcake, its notes of tonka, caramel, and creamy woods deliver that cozy sweetness. The aroma is complemented by hints of bergamot, sage, neroli, and musk, too. This was one of the most-mentioned fragrances at the Bath & Body Works Essentials collection event I attended ahead of launch, and one whiff made it easy to understand why it was a favorite.

I also kept hearing whispers about Cashmere Amber around the room, and it quickly became my go-to from the collection. It’s difficult to classify this fragrance as just one thing. It combines clean florals, creamy musk, and soft amber through notes of Mandarin Madagascar, almond blossom, creamy magnolia, cocoa butter, cashmere musk, and amber. It truly has a little bit of everything!

Last up is Suede Blossoms, which is cleaner, fresher, and muskier than its counterparts. It relies on notes of white tea blossoms, bergamot, jasmine, cashmere woods, tonka, and skin musks. While I think this kind of fragrance brings much-needed balance to the collection’s scent trio, it’s not one I’d personally reach for.

  • Vanilla Silk notes: Top notes: bergamot, sage; Heart notes: tonka, neroli; Base notes: caramel, musk, creamy woods.
  • Cashmere Amber notes: Top notes: mandarin Madagascar, pink pepper, warm linen accord; Heart notes: almond blossom, heliotrope, creamy magnolia; Base notes: cocoa butter, cashmere musk, amber.
  • Suede Blossoms notes: Top notes: comforting white tea blossoms, bergamot, linen accord; Heart notes: coconut lactones, jasmine, wheat bran absolute; Base notes: cashmere woods, tonka bean absolute, skin musks.

Overall, these three fragrances are formulated to feel light and subtle rather than heavy and rich. That makes them especially fitting for people who prefer softer aromas or find stronger scents overwhelming. Even more, they show that sensitive skin and fragrance can belong in the same sentence.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Formulas

Another must for a sensitive-skin-forward body care collection is the formulas themselves. Bath & Body Works describes these formulas as hypoallergenic, which generally means they’re formulated to be less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Let me emphasize that this doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to not irritate at all; they just minimize the chances. The new body washes, body lotions, and fragrances are also formulated without sulfates, parabens, and phthalates, and the collection is dermatologist-approved.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Ingredients

The final crucial component is ingredients. Rather than relying on harsher skincare actives like vitamin C, salicylic acid, or retinol, the Essentials collection focuses on gentle, moisturizing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, shea butter, and cocoa butter.

Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are humectants, meaning they help attract and retain water in the skin. Shea butter and cocoa butter, meanwhile, are rich emollients that help soften and condition the skin while supporting moisture retention. In other words, hyaluronic acid and glycerin help bring moisture to the skin, while the butters help keep skin feeling soft and moisturized. I applied the body lotion all over and immediately noticed how soft and moisturized my skin felt, so the collection certainly delivered on the luxurious body care experience I was looking for. And if you’re concerned about how these formulas will react with your skin, you can always do a patch test.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Expert Insight

Bath & Body Works also tapped board-certified dermatologist Dr. Michelle Henry as a brand ambassador for the Essentials collection. At the launch event, Dr. Henry explained that people with sensitive skin often look for products that support hydration while fitting easily into their daily routines. “The new franchise from Bath & Body Works includes familiar body care ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and cocoa butter, with formulas developed and tested for sensitive skin,” she said.

Dr. Henry also expressed excitement about the collection because she hopes her patients with sensitive skin can enjoy the same kind of pampering and self-care experiences as those without sensitive skin. Based on my experience trying the products, the Essentials collection delivers on that idea.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Packaging

The final thing I want to point out is the packaging. I love the marble design on the body lotions and perfume caps, as well as the overall sleek, chic aesthetic of the collection. These products look like they belong in a fancy spa—and now, that fancy spa can be your very own bathroom.

Bath & Body Works Essentials Collection: Pricing

Also, note that the Essentials collection is priced similarly to Bath & Body Works’ other offerings, with prices ranging from $19 for each of the body lotions and body washes to $40 for each eau de parfum.
