Man charged in Tupac Shakur killing sentenced for jail fight

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The man charged with the murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur was sentenced Tuesday for getting into a fight with another inmate while in jail last year.
Judge Nadia Krall ordered Duane Davis to serve between 16 and 40 months in prison, with credit for over seven months served, per court records.
According to an arrest report, Davis, now 62, was being escorted to his unit at the Clark County Detention Center on Dec. 23 when he got into a brawl with Rochlon Hamilton, another inmate.
A jury convicted him after a two-day trial in April. Davis' attorney at the time, Carl Arnold, tried to vacate the judgment and get a new trial, arguing that jurors discussed the case while the trial was still taking place, but Krall denied his motion after hearing from the jurors directly at a hearing.
Authorities allege Davis ordered the fatal shooting of Shakur while they were in Las Vegas. He pleaded not guilty and has been held at Clark County Detention Center since his 2023 arrest as he awaits trial.
His attorneys told reporters last month that while they will file new motions, they still expect the trial to begin in February next year as scheduled.
