[edit]SUL finalization
[edit]If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.
How to add an entry here

Making a request for your own account
[edit]For changing your username on one wiki:
Please include the following information in your request:
- the old username,
- the new username,
- please sign
~~~~request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).
If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.
You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.
Private requests
[edit]Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.
Simple rename requests
[edit]If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:
- Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
- Submit the request below in this section.
Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.
- New Username: Syed Taneesh Ahmad (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Reason: (I want to change my name from Syedbasitahmad to syed Taneesh Ahmad, because I want to keep that name, it will be easier for people to find me.)
Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications
[edit]Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.
We are sorry to announce that Global User Account Merges are not possible as the UserMerge extension is incompatible with CentralAuth. As such, we will not accept any request to merge user accounts as it is technically impossible at this moment to do so. |
Special usurpation request by SuperPianoMan9167
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: SuperPianoMan9167's doppelganger (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Superpianoman (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: see below
This is a somewhat unusual request, as I do not actually wish to change my username. I would instead like to take control of the account Superpianoman to use as a doppelgänger to avoid impersonation. The account has no valid edits. Thank you for your consideration. SuperPianoMan9167 (talk) 02:26, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- @SuperPianoMan9167: Please create the alternate account first with a random username, then let us know the new username. Once that's done, we can proceed with the usurpation. Max (talk) 11:11, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- @SuperPianoMan9167: I understand as you are requesting to use "SuperPianoMan9167's doppelganger" to usurp "Superpianoman" and "SuperPianoMan9167" remains, based on communications above, please do point out if I am wrong. However, target is notified, and this request is
On hold until 12 October. In the meantime, please kindly login "SuperPianoMan9167's doppelganger" and reply here to confirm your ownership. --Hamish one great show can change the world 05:27, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Wogone
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Wogone (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Wowone (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I would like to change my username to "Wowone". The target account already exists (created in January 2008), but it has zero edits and appears to be inactive. I would like to usurp this account. Thank you.
On hold until 18 October 2026, target notified via both talk page and email. --Hamish one great show can change the world 22:56, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
A Wondrous Raven
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: A Wondrous Raven (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Corvus corax (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I requested this a few months ago (here), but it was declined for being too similar to another user, CorvusCorax. I am wondering if this name would still be fine because the username policy says, "Requests for accounts with usernames that are similar only to those of unused or inactive accounts are usually approved if no other issues are found" and the user in question, CorvusCorax, seems to be inactive. Please let me know if I'm interpreting something incorrectly. Thanks,
- @A Wondrous Raven:, we generally expect both conditions to be satisfied; an account with 13,000 edits is never considered "inactive" irrespective of when they last made their edit. I'm personally inclined to grant the rename since we have tons of similar usernames and I don't see evidence that the proposed name will lead to confusion, but given that multiple global renamers looked at the previous request before declining it, I'm keeping it on hold to get some opinions on whether the rename is fine now. Leaderboard (talk) 07:50, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Qədir Can you check [1]? Why was an account left renamed half-way if the original request was ultimately declined? Leaderboard (talk) 07:54, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- I reverted the username change. To the point, I think a difference of one space between 2 usernames, when both are recognized, is a bit too much. Neriah - 💬 - 18:52, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- I re-requested this name partly because I didn't think it would result in much confusion, as CorvusCorax mostly edited on ruwiki and I mainly edit on enwiki. The capitalisation is different as well; I don't know if that changes anything. A Wondrous Raven (talk) 01:22, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- You can take a look here. I accidentally performed the usurpation before checking the username requested in the usurp request. Sincerely, Qədir (talk) 12:38, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
Ow0cast
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Ow0cast (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Owuh (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: new name matches the name i use online everywhere else. target account does exist (created over 4 years ago) and has edits, but only 4 of them, which were vandalism (en:Special:Diff/1141861055), and they were all over 3 years ago
On hold until 18 October 2026, also notified via email. Borhan (talk) 14:17, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Have A Nice Life
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Have A Nice Life (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Strauss (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: requesting usurpation of the username "Strauss". my previous account rename was hasty and does not match my established online pseudonym. the target account (attached to fr.wikipedia) was created in 2006/2015 and has been inactive for over a decade. while the header counts 8 edits, the contributions log displays zero visible edits. I would like to usurp "Strauss" so my main account accurately reflects my preferred pseudonym. please notify the account holder and place this request on hold. thank you very much!
- Hi, it appears that you changed your username less than six months ago, and we would generally decline your new request under this circumstance. Have you got any convincing reason for us to make an exception this time? --Hamish one great show can change the world 00:23, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Hamish,
- Thanks for taking a look!
- I understand where you're coming from regarding the timeframe between renames. My previous request was made before I fully settled on the handle I use across my other platforms. I'm hoping to switch to "Strauss" so my account name aligns with my primary online presence.
- Since the target account is inactive and requires a usurpation check, I wanted to ask if it might be possible to make an exception. However, I respect the established process and am happy to follow whatever you think is best here.
- Thanks again for your help and time! Have A Nice Life (talk) 20:40, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Basically, frequent rename requests are approved only in exceptional cases (privacy, for example), and even then, not usurpation requests. In addition, since I would have hesitated even without the September rename, and because the user has made fewer than 250 edits globally, I lean toward declining the request regardless of the previous rename. Of course, feel free to submit the request again in a few months, once the account is more established. Neriah - 💬 - 22:49, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Neriah,
- Thanks for the explanation and context regarding the criteria and edit threshold. I'll hold off for now and focus on building up my edit history before submitting a new request down the line.
- Thanks again to both of you for your time! Have A Nice Life (talk) 01:53, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
Toketaa
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Toketaa (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Dualcerb (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I use this username everywhere else except Wikipedia, and the only reason why it isn't my username here is because I made the account while I was still doing cross wiki abuse. I have appealed to en-wiki under a one account restriction, and it has been over a year since I have been unblocked. It has 10 edits, was made around 5 years ago and is globally locked, but I still want the username back. I would like to match my username with the username that I use everywhere else.
