Challenges: Streaming Data into the Database

Many solutions face challenges when streaming data from thousands of data sources. Smart cities operating IoT networks with sensors such as temperature, pressure, and flow meters are great examples of applications with devices that generate a massive amount of data in the scope of Microservices solutions supporting our cities nowadays.

So, along with IoT, we can list additional use cases with scenarios where the application must ingest streaming data into the database at a very high speed and persist telemetry data in the form of rows in an Oracle Database.

Some typical use cases:

  • Internet of Things (IoT) sensors
  • Time series data for stock trade applications
  • Call detail records (CDRs) in telecom solutions
  • Geospatial-related activities
  • Social media content

One database might not be able to handle several thousand concurrent live connections without being strongly affected by performance degradations, reduced response times, poor resiliency, and other non-functional requirements. A better solution is…
