Is CrewAI Really Async? Debunking the Asynchronous Myth & When Streaming Makes Sense
A digital brain with interconnected nodes

Large Language Models (LLMs) have great promise, but the true magic occurs when you put them together into intelligent, cooperative teams. Consider a symphony orchestra in which every musician — LLM agent — adds their own brilliance to produce a harmonic whole. CrewAI is a framework meant to coordinate LLM agents into strong problem-solving units based on this goal.

But a great orchestra requires more than just outstanding performers, as any conductor is aware. It requires great awareness of how each instrument adds to the whole sound, exact timing, and deft coordination. This corresponds in the context of CrewAI to knowledge of the asynchronous features of the framework.

Each of us has seen the demos, the asynchronous calls suggesting parallel processing, and the streaming outputs offering a window into the agents’ mental processes. But are CrewAI really performing a symphony of parallel execution, or are we merely hearing a well-timed solo performance?
