Only One HTML File: He Handcrafted a Stunning 3D Physics Flip Book
Today, while browsing GitHub, I was absolutely blown away by an open-source project. It's somewhat comparable to the skeuomorphic bookshelves from Apple's past.
These days, when you write a simple page, `npm install` often downloads hundreds of megabytes of dependencies first. Webpack, Vite, and various build tools have long surrounded the frontend. But this project has zero dependencies—all the code lives in a single `index.html` file, yet it delivers a complete 3D interactive sketchbook.
The project is called Sketchbook, open-sourced by MengTo. The original is a Singapore sketchbook, and it's also well-suited for remixing.
First, watch the author's original video to get a feel for the actual effect.
When you move the mouse, the entire book tilts with 3D parallax; a magnifying glass can zoom in on text and ink details locally while staying independent of the paper surface. When it slides past the edge of the paper, the lens turns into transparent glass.
These effects are all achieved with native DOM, CSS, and JavaScript—no Three.js, no third-party animation libraries.
