In modern web development, building large, monolithic applications can lead to complexity, slow development cycles, and tight coupling between different parts of the system.

Microfrontends provide a solution by breaking down complex applications into smaller, independently deployable components.

Module Federation, a feature of Webpack (and supported by tools like RSpack), enables efficient and dynamic loading of these components directly at runtime.

This article is inspired by this video by Jack Herrington. I follow the steps from this video.

We’ll explore runtime-loaded microfrontends using Module Federation and RSpack.

Why Microfrontends Matter

Here’s why you should consider a microfrontend architecture:

  • Independent Development and Deployment: Build and update individual parts of your application without needing to redeploy the entire system.
  • Scalability: Scale individual components of the application as needed, optimizing resource usage and providing application responsiveness.
  • Maintenance: Easily fix and update isolated portions of the application…
