Pokémon Champions India Series Tournament Announced
Indian players now have a way to break into the global Pokémon VGC scene.
India will finally have a chance to compete in global Pokémon video game championship tournaments as the Pokémon Company announces India's very first official tournament. The Pokémon Champions India Series grants the opportunity for top trainers in the country to compete in competitive Pokémon battling through Pokémon Champions.
For “Pokémon Champions: Championship Series 2027 Season", players will first have to go through six in-game global challenges to then be selected for the online qualifier. At the online qualifiers the top players will be selected for the grand finals, which will be held in an offline tournament setting. Finally, the winner of the India Series Grand Finals will represent India during the annual Pokémon World Championship.
Players can participate in the six in-game Global Challenge tournament through the game itself; however, Indian players have to be competing in the India region to move on to further stages. Here are the details for the six in-game challenges:
- Six in-game Global Challenges will take place between September 2026 and April 2027.
- Each Global Challenge allows players to participate in one of three age divisions.
- The top 30 eligible Indian players from each age division in each Global Challenge will advance to the next level.
- With six Global Challenges, a total of 540 players will proceed to the Online Qualifier
The first Global Challenge is set to happen from September 25 to 28, 2026. The registerations for the same opened on September 18, 2026, and you can register in the Pokémon Champions app/game. Any India-based player who previously selected a different region must change their region setting to India in order to compete.
The Online Qualifiers will be held in May 2027, with specific dates to be announced later. The strongest performers from the Online Qualifiers will move on to an offline Grand finals tournament which is scheduled for June 2027. These performers would compete for a spot to receive an invitation to the Pokémon World Championships in Singapore. The number of players to receive an invitation will be announced later.
Players who do end up qualifying for the offline grand finals and World Championships will be eligible for travel support for the tournament.
For years Indian players were unable to break into the VGC sphere due to it mainly being a console-only tournament and due to Nintendo not releasing their consoles in India; the opportunities were scarce. But with Pokémon Champions being a cross-platform game on mobile and console, Indians finally can compete at the highest levels.
