Steps to reproduce
When trying to use netrw to display a directory on a remote server using "e sftp://user@ip/home/user/" from a Windows 11 system, I get a message saying error 255 and display of "ssh: Could not resolve hostname 'ip': No such host is known. I can successfully connect using ssh to this ip address, so that is not the problem. What I expected was a list of files and directories.
This worked on vim 9.1 (but with weird error message) but stopped when I upgraded to 9.2.
VIM - Vi IMproved 9.2 (2026 Feb 14, compiled Sep 19 2026 23:56:00)
MS-Windows 64-bit GUI/console version with OLE support
Included patches: 1-1122
From Windows Terminal
- vim --cmd "set loadplugins"
- :e sftp://user@ip/home/user/
- :message
Observe the display about "Could not resolve hostname", and the message from the :message command of "shell returned 255"
Expected behaviour
What I expected was a list of files and directories after specifying a URL to a remote system via sftp.
