First up, I love this project and I use it daily, thank you so much for the great work!
Something that I noticed a lot over time is that the commenting system has some major flaws.
Also, we have the feature of linked memos. This has some overlapping use cases with comments. When does it make sense to use a comment and when does it make sense to use a separate memo and link it?
From a technical perspective, comments are many-to-one while linked memos are many-to-many, but in everyday use this is kind of unclear.
Some ideas to improve it:
Drop the comments & linked memos all together and replace it with a "threads" system like we have on microblogging social media platforms like Mastodon. Every comment then practically is its own memo, just linked to the parent memo that was replied to. Then replies would appear in fulltext search, tags etc. It would unify the whole architecture a bit.
Keep the comments, but make them more "first level". Include them in fulltext search, tags etc. and maybe display them individually on the feed but clearly marked as comments with maybe the h1 or a preview of the parent.
What y'all think about that? Do you have similar feelings about the commenting system? What would be reasonable improvements?
