# LIEF
> LIEF is a cross-platform C++, Python, and Rust library to parse, analyze, modify, assemble, disassemble, and rewrite ELF, PE, Mach-O, and other executable formats.
LIEF (Library to Instrument Executable Formats) is an Apache-2.0-licensed, cross-platform C++, Python, Rust, and C library for parsing, inspecting, modifying, and rebuilding executable formats. It supports ELF, PE, Mach-O, COFF, Android formats, DWARF, PDB, assembly, disassembly, and runtime binary inspection.
Canonical site: https://lief.re/
Complete site content in one Markdown file: https://lief.re/llms-full.txt
The site pages and technical articles listed below have Markdown twins at the same paths ending in `index.md`, advertised in the HTML head with `<link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown">`. Use the API documentation as the source of truth for interfaces in the matching LIEF version. Use the technical blog for release history, implementation details, and worked binary-engineering examples.

## API documentation
The technical documentation publishes its own Markdown pages and indexes. Start with its discovery map and fetch the pages relevant to the task. In the latest documentation, replace `.html` with `.md` to read resolved Markdown, including code examples, every language tab, API signatures, and absolute citation links. The `latest` channel tracks development; `stable` tracks the latest release. Match API usage to the installed LIEF version, platform, architecture, and enabled features.
- [Documentation for AI assistants](https://lief.re/doc/latest/ai.md): How to read Markdown pages, choose an index, match documentation versions, and retrieve or update chunks.
- [Documentation discovery map](https://lief.re/doc/latest/llms.txt): Guides and API references with descriptions and direct Markdown links; start here for documentation tasks.
- [Documentation JSON content index](https://lief.re/doc/latest/index.json): Search document titles, descriptions, and full text, with documentation versions and canonical and Markdown URLs.
- [Documentation retrieval corpus](https://lief.re/doc/latest/index.chunks.json): Retrieve sections and API symbols with heading context, canonical citation URLs, stable IDs, neighbour links, and content hashes.
- [Complete documentation corpus](https://lief.re/doc/latest/llms-full.txt): All exported Sphinx pages, including API references, for local indexing; large references may exceed an assistant's context window.
- [Development API documentation](https://lief.re/doc/latest/index.md): C++, Python, Rust, C, and LIEF Extended documentation for the development version; API guides also link to the separate Rust and Doxygen references.
- [Stable API documentation](https://lief.re/doc/stable/): Documentation for the current stable release.
