It might be nice to expose a base repository method which does nothing but validate the DAL connection. For example, for MongoDb it would ensure the MongoServer is running. The same could be applied for most repo, I suppose. This helper would be handle for integration testing (only run Mongo tests if server is installed and running) or application health checks. Does this just busy up the API? Is it better than merely calling into one of the exiting methods and handling the exception?
