Suggestion - Add a way to get rid of scrolls #1619

Open

Description

@silma85

As the title says, add a way to get rid of scrolls, the natural way would be "a - Apply what? Are you sure you want to rip your cursed scroll of create monster apart?". This is mainly, or only, for times when you don't really want to leave around scrolls the enemy could use (create monsters, but also teleport - would even be better if monsters could use [blessed] fire or confuse monsters or other scrolls against you, or to their advantage), don't want to use them (go ahead, read cursed create monster in Gehennom), don't have a blanking source nearby and don't want to lug around even more scrolls.

I know you can get rid of them in other ways but it would make sense thematically, since you can break wands.

Thanks for hearing my suggestion.

    Don't forget that breaking wands has consequences, not only you get explosion, but most wands also produce effect, related to type of wand, so breaking a wand of create monster will hurt you and surround with monsters.

    Being able to just rip scrolls apart would just make game easier and more boring, since other options to manage unwanted scrolls become obsolete. And giving some bad effect to compensate (and match breaking wands) would invalidate the whole point for ripping scrolls outright (e.g. ripping scroll should somehow release it's magic in a harmful way, so it should probably spawn some monsters, and if it does - why rip it in first place, if you could just read it to same effect).

    I just don't see problems solved by tearing up scrolls as being common enough to be worth adding a way to tear up scrolls. They're pretty light and have a lot of future value, so even if a hero can only get rid of them by dropping or stashing them, they are unlikely to be a good candidate for that; there are likely to be other items that are less useful and heavier to get rid of first.
