I have already built a small asp.net core test app to test the functionality, and implemented it in a project at work.
I am now in the process of testing it in a small console only application.
I am using the Generic HostBuilder (not the webhostbuilder) and was wondering if extcore can be set up for this as well. I couldn't find anything in the documentation or examples.
I consider ExtCore to be modular apps framework for web applications, but I think it can work with console apps either. You just need to run AddExtCore method in order to discover assemblies and extensions. After that you will be able to use ExtensionManager class to get types or instances, to use ExtCore.Data extension etc.
I have a console app working but i had to write some extension methods for UseExtCore() and add a couple of methods to IConfigureServicesAction to and IConfigureAction to accept IHostBuilder instead of IApplicationBuilder. The big issue was the lack of Startup.cs when using IHostBuilder.
I'll post a link to a repo when i can.

@DmitrySikorsky I've forked a branch at https://github.com/ryansalt/ExtCore/tree/fb_151_ExtCoreConsoleApplication_Tests
This is an addition to ExtCore.Infrastructure to add IConfigureHostAction and a new project ExtCore.ConsoleApplication that uses the IHostBuilder instead of ApplicationBuilder.
On the branch https://github.com/ryansalt/ExtCore/tree/fb_151_ExtCoreConsoleApplication_Tests
I've included a test console app with two extensions, one an IHostedService.
Is this something we could include in the main branch?

@ryansalt I think this is good idea. I will try to add that into 5.0.0.
