Malappuram: National Highway 66 will become a 4 lane, 45 meter pathway between Vengalam and Edappally with lesser than expected hurdles, thanks to the 11 bypass tracks that will be built along the course of the highway.
The draft report says that the new bypass will circumvent the acquisition logjam by avoiding the main cities and town centers as well as commercial buildings. The earlier complaints around the alignment issues will also be considered.
Thrissur will have six and Malappuram will get four of these 11 bypass routes which will measure a total of 498 km. The last one is being considered for Paravur, Ernakulam. The four bypass tracks in Kozhikode will be widened.
The new move will also consider realignment other than the bypasses considering public grievance. 1.34 kms has been realigned like this at Idimoozhikkal. The public will also be consulted before the final draft of the proposal gets through and the land acquisition is carried out.
