war of choice (plural wars of choice)

  1. (politics) A war waged despite not being necessary, such as for the acquisition of land, resources, or power.
    Antonym: war of necessity
This war we find to be a war of choice, not of necessity, and hence call for its immediate discontinuation and for the restoration of antebellum relations.
