bone structure (plural bone structures)

  1. The exact anatomy of a person at the level of his bones, which varies somewhat by measurements and angles compared to the characteristic averages per species, race, or other genetically defined population.
    • 1960 February, H. C. P. Smail, “New Portrait of George Stephenson”, in Railway Magazine, page 93:
Comparing the present picture carefully with other known portraits of George Stephenson, and in particular with a portrait belonging to Mrs. Connie Wilson, of Stargate, Ryton-on-Tyne, a close resemblance can be detected in the general contours of the face, the shape of the nose, the lines and shadows around the mouth and chin, and the eyebrows and bone structure above the eyes.
