Etymology

[edit]

Unknown. Compare كِمّ (kimm, “calyx of a flower, the envelope or spathe of a palm-tree or the like”), or perhaps even كُمّ (kumm, “sleeve”) as the body stacks up thickness in this area, and also أَكَمَة (ʔakama, “hill, mound”). Seemingly related to Amharic ክምችት (kəmčət), አከማቸ (ʾäkämačä).
