    The scale of length-marking is extra-short ⟨ă⟩, short ⟨a⟩, half-long ⟨aˑ⟩, long ⟨aː⟩, over-long ⟨aːː⟩.
    With a consonant, may be used to indicate a tap: e.g. ⟨n̆⟩, ⟨ɢ̆⟩, ⟨ʟ̆⟩.
Synonym: ◌̮: When carried by a letter with an ascender, it may be placed below the letter: e.g. ⟨ʡ̮⟩, ⟨ʎ̮⟩.
  2. (UPA) Short vowel (e.g. ă) or consonant (e.g. t̆ ); cf. superscripting for extra-short ᵃ, ᵗ.
