Hi Primefac — thanks for your closure at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2026_June_18#Rotten_Tomatoes_and_Metacritic_film_prose. While I agree that overall there is no consensus regarding the template, I was surprised to see that you identified a consensus to make the template subst-only, because several editors (including myself) argued strenuously against a substitution requirement, and those arguments were not meaningfully/convincingly rebutted. In discussing substitution specifically, your closing statement references a reasonable number of !votes but does not quantify any data, and ignores entirely the argumentation aspect.
I am inclined to challenge this closure and seek further consensus about the substitution question specifically, but before doing so I would appreciate any further information you could provide on how you evaluated this in your close. Sdkbtalk06:06, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the follow-up. I've expanded on my close; it is not so much that there was a straight-up consensus to make it a subst-only template, but rather that there is no consensus to "do nothing" (for lack of a better term) and subst-only is a viable option that isn't moving the needle entirely to "delete". I meant to add something like that at the time but I was having trouble coming up with something succinct as a "final statement".
Regarding rebuttal of your concerns, I would note that your edit came almost three weeks after the initial discussion had opened (60th out of ~85 !votes), and well after most of those refuting editors had either stopped replying or were warned against bludgeoning. Comments regarding substitution that refute claims similar to yours had already been made, so I considered all of the pro- and con- statements together rather than as individual "statement/rebuttal" groupings.
You are of course welcome to take this to DRV, as is your prerogative; a ping should be sufficient to get my attention if you decide to go that route. Primefac (talk) 12:09, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Am I missing something, or has this editor undone the Tfd resolution and then taken no further steps towards a challenge? That can’t be on, surely? MapReader (talk) 13:32, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was going to give it a couple more days before nudging this again, as I see Sdkb has made a handful of edits, but not many, since bringing up their concerns here. I added the substitution notice to the templates and set it to auto; Sdkb turned off the auto-substitution but did leave the notice in place, so I wouldn't say they've undone the resolution at this time; just paused the auto-substitution. I didn't have much of an issue with that, since for all I knew someone else was planning to challenge the closure. DonIago (talk) 13:43, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Simply slapping the auto-subst is something I probably would have reverted had I seen it; there were valid concerns raised by both sides, in particular about some parameters that should be removed before the text is subst onto the page. Primefac (talk) 21:10, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I guess then, while I understand on a theoretical level what your closure meant for the future of the templates, I'm confused as to how it should be implemented beyond adding the note. I'm happy to defer to others on that part, and just substitute the templates if/when I see them in use (i.e. I won't make a point of going looking for them). DonIago (talk) 03:29, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding the addendum to your close, @Primefac. Your note that it is not so much that there was a straight-up consensus to make it a subst-only template, but rather that there is no consensus to "do nothing" gives me a better understanding of your close as a kind of bartender's close. I still would have closed it as no consensus overall — your close notes that those wishing to create an exception [to TMPG] need to justify it, and in my view the keep !voters convincingly did so by noting that TMPG explains the purpose behind the rule (as this makes it more difficult to edit the content) and that this purpose does not apply to text that does not need to be changed. Nevertheless, I think our readings are closely aligned enough that I'm not inclined to dispute the close at DRV. Rather, given your note above about disagreements around the parameters, the next step seems to be to have a follow-up discussion about the conditions/approaches that make sense for substitution. I'll plan to open that in the next few days; feel free to let me know if you have any input. Cheers, Sdkbtalk05:22, 10 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I also suggest that your "text that does not need to be changed" is a value judgement, rather than a statement of fact. While you might argue that's true for RT's review summaries, since these are direct quotes and can hardly be edited, the sometimes-trite and sometimes-inaccurate Metacritic score summaries are contestable, and other editors are entitled to contest them even if your opinion is that no change is needed. MapReader (talk) 08:05, 10 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
In my view, the closer did very well to steer through an extended and often ill-focused debate; it is never, of course, a simple vote, and if you disregard all the ‘keep’ posts that appeared merely to like seeing RT and MC data in film and tv articles - which missed the point of the proposal entirely - judging strictly on policy grounds, these templates should have been deleted (and replaced with ones simply inserting the numerical RT and MC scores only). As such, the closer’s outcome represents a reasonable compromise, if one that will likely lead to further proposals for change going forward. MapReader (talk) 13:36, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Primefac. Thanks for sorting the issue out with Quisi Bryan. That user in question has done this on multiple occasions without gaining consensus on articles. He just moves them to draft whenever he pleases. Any way of preventing him from doing this? Thanks. Inexpiable (talk) 10:43, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you can show a pattern of disruption and they don't give the appropriate reassuring answers, they can be blocked from page moves (if it's really bad it can be done unilaterally, but unless it's happening quickly and often I usually prefer to give them a chance to explain themselves). needs more than 11 sources is a ridiculous draftifiaction reason. Primefac (talk) 10:51, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
You act like I’m the villain in the situation when I just simply moved it so it can be reworked or improved. Look at other articles on the list that have like 40+ sources. The lack of sources doesn’t convince it was properly researched. If you’re gonna make an article that looks messy or lacks in sources, then don’t put in mainspace. I’m not gonna create an AfD, but the article should have more sources. Bluehawkking (talk) 16:48, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I assume you are replying to Inexpiable and not me (just going off the tone and not the indents) but since you came in guns-blazing I would note as an additional point against your action that the article was created in 2021 which puts it well outside the limits of what WP:DRAFTIFY allows. As I said in my comments (both immediately above and the one you're potentially replying to) I'm not necessarily seeing a pattern of disruption, though this was a sub-par decision to move the page, so I doubt that this even rises to the level of needing a discussion about possible sanctions (let alone actually receiving any). Primefac (talk) 16:57, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Primefac, I’m hoping to tap into your expertise regarding modules and templates.
Info:There is no consistent approach across the articles covering the medal tables from 1912 to 1948 Olympics: sometimes medals from the art competitions are included, and sometimes they are not. There is no consensus on this matter either.
--> My proposal is to use a toggle switch—similar to the one on Olympedia—to allow the table to be displayed in different ways.Using `mw-collapsible` works well and does not require loading an additional CSS file. The only downside is that the wikitable appears twice in the wikitext.
Issue: The goal would be to handle the main table in the "all-time" article the same way, but I’d rather not load a massive table into the wikitext twice.
Do you happen to have a suggestion for how an interactive toggle switch—to switch between values in a table—could be implemented differently?
Unfortunately, Wiki imposes many restrictions (such as on JavaScript or even simple HTML forms like "input type"). Miria~01 (talk) 19:20, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do we not have a consensus on whether to include this information? Also (mostly out of curiosity than anything) why are the art competitions so controversial? Primefac (talk) 08:50, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Most NOCs themselves do not include these medals in their statistics (e.g. https://www.teamusa.com/all-time-medals). Although the IOC has included them in the medal table on olympics.com (since 2021), this discipline is not listed anywhere in separately in their database (https://www.olympics.com/en/sports ).Art competitions are explicitly regarded by the IOC as non-sport competitions, that is why I understand the reluctance to mix it with sports in our articles.
Monaco 2024 IOC profile: No athlete representing Monaco has yet won an Olympic Games medal of any colour in the sports competitions.-> bronze medal at Art comp. in 1924 by Julien Médecin, which is also included in the profile's overview
Luxembourg 2024 IOC profile: At the Games of the XV Olympiad Helsinki 1952, Joseph Barthel became the first athlete representing Luxembourg to win an Olympic gold medal in a sports competition, competing in the men’s athletics 1,500 metres event.-> prior gold medals at Art comp. in 1924 and 1928 by Jean Jacoby, which are also included in the profile's overview
If the Olympics don't count the non-sports medals, then I think mentioning them in prose is fine but I don't necessarily see the need to have them included in the tables (especially if we are explicitly calling out the non-sports medals as having been won as extraneous to those of sport). Primefac (talk) 09:41, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Stevencocoboy Don't worry, I will always discuss something like that in WP:OLY beforehand. I was looking for a good technical approach—one that avoids MediaWiki extensions or additional modules—given the constraints of the English Wikipedia (no JavaScript, and most HTML tags prohibited due to security risks, with only a few allowed). After a bit of trial and error, I managed to find an elegant and effective solution: --> On my Sanbox is an example using a small CSS-File Template:Miria~01/sandbox/styles.css: It involves listing the country in question as a row twice in the table; the toggle switches between the two, with one hidden using `display:none` at any given time. When I have time, I'll refine and generalize it further (so it can be used in other tables as well) and then turn it into a template.
From a technical standpoint, it looks like you'd need a global .css to make this happen, which theoretically should be possible but might potentially require making the medals table its own template. Primefac (talk) 09:41, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wondering if you can assist me. There is an edit filter I am hoping to get added but as it is directly related to combating vandalism I understand it should NOT be post at Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested as it may help the vandal game the system... I did email wikipedia-en-editfilters@... but the email bounced with a message that the message Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval. I see that you are on the list of Edit filter managers and obviously we have interacted before... If I were to post about it here, might you be able to help? What do you recommend... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:24, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not on the edit filter mailing list, so I couldn't speak to its activity, but I suspect emails require approval just to avoid spam from non-members (ArbCom and its Clerks mailing list have this feature). I'd wait a bit to see if it gets pushed through to the group before worrying too much from that angle (they wouldn't put that as the advice if it wasn't sound). I suppose we can always talk vaguely about it here, though, should you need additional input. Primefac (talk) 08:45, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is a lengthy history of an LTA making thisexact edit across hundreds of pages. If you look at the edit history of that now blocked temp account, you will see they did this to a large number of pages. Ali Nawaz Awan has a number of these accounts in its edit history. This crops up every few weeks, different temp account and different IP. Would be great to get an edit filter to prevent that change from being made. Thoughts? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:19, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Weird, but if it's a problem then it might be worth a filter. Probably they're hyper-focused on a specific issue and just don't notice/care that the infobox code has changed. Primefac (talk) 20:37, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The weird thing is that it has been literally hundreds, if not thousands of edits and led to the blocking of at least a dozen different accounts. Such a bizarre pattern. What is the process for actually making the filter? I have no idea how that all works... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:28, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not a dumb question, my answer was somewhat lacking on details due to an attempt at brevity. Only EFM can create/edit pages on Special:AbuseFilter, but if I'm not mistaken Special:AbuseFilter/test allows for testing of novel code to see if it works. Based largely on regex, fwiw, but if they're putting in specific phrases it should be easy to get that nailed down. Primefac (talk) 09:18, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Would a user account with a name indicating "learning with Artificial Intelligence" be considered a bot account, or would the account need to have made some edits (beyond adding "test" to their userpage) for LLM editing / LLM editing intent to be reviewed and handled through the usual LLM review/warn/block(if) methods? I ran across a new username the other day, and while they haven't done any editing beyond the aforementioned userpage "test", I'm leery of their intent due to their name, but don't want to be bite-y either. Thanks, Zinnober9 (talk) 21:43, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's a bit of a pain (done it before) but it's probably best for now to just keep an eye on them; people choose all sorts of interesting names and they might not actually use AI to do their editing. Primefac (talk) 22:00, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Primefac, Moneytrees, since I closed the RfA slightly early as I was available to do so and the result wasn't in doubt, I'd have no problem with Moneytrees' support being added since it was done while the RfA was technically still within its opening time. Moneytrees almost certainly went to make their edit seconds before I made mine. Acalamari00:24, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, just a quick question. When over ten months ago I was blocked from the 2021 Eslöv school stabbing, my unblock condition was that I was to refrain from editing the article, which I have. I was a much less experienced editor back then and the whole BLP thing didn't come from a place of malice, rather that I just did not understand the policy. I have learned a lot since then and looking back my editing was quite disruptive and in retrospect now I completely get why I was blocked. My question is if I can in theory now edit the article if I wanted to? To be honest I am not that interested in that topic anymore but it would be nice to know.
AFeatherlessBipehead, I would tend to agree with Primefac. Wikipedia has millions of articles, so if you're saying you don't even have any particular interest in that one any more, I would just find another one to edit instead. You certainly have no shortage of choices. SeraphimbladeTalk to me13:31, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It could get filled again, which is the primary purpose of the tracking category. I would say the same about the "unknown parameters" category -- even though it's empty now, someone could add in an unknown param and it would then populate the cat. The template still has the code to track the deprecated parameters, and thus the category could be populated. Until the code is removed (something which I'll probably do in the next day or two) we should not delete it. Primefac (talk) 21:23, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was brought up early in the discussion but never really gained any traction from a "let's include this as well" standpoint. Given how long the discussion was open I do not think it would be appropriate to extend the TFD closure to include this template. Primefac (talk) 10:33, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was on my list; other than waiting for the bloody cache to actually get through the cricket infobox transclusions (been waiting two weeks for the thing to stay empty...) I don't think I have any high priorities, so I suppose I could hit that next. Primefac (talk) 09:25, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It does, I suppose I just assumed that after a fortnight the cat would have finished updating (at this point it's almost a game how long it will take). That being said it looks like over 5k (!) which will be quite a while if I let the system slowly trawl through them all.... Primefac (talk) 15:37, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I hear ya. These can get annoying as hell. For some of these templates with smaller use counts, I've taken to just running the bot on all transclusions of the template and skipping if only whitespace changes are made. But whatever workflow works for you! You're killing it with your bot so keep it up! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:39, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have started background null edits. You should see some pages flow into Category:Pages using infobox cricketer with deprecated parameters over the next few hours. Feel free to whine provide constructive feedback about the slow categorization of pages at T157670. There is a bot that refreshes stale pages, and it is currently caught up to 41 days ago; the template was edited 26 days ago. I know that the developers are smart and clever enough to ameliorate this problem with not a lot of work, but it's not a priority for them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:14, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's another purge bot that's at BRFA, haven't had a chance to look at the details yet but since they're a new editor I want to make sure I don't just rubber-stamp it because I want to use it myself! Primefac (talk) 19:15, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I noticed you were the deleting admin on Template:Molecules detected in outer space. I checked the deletion discussion and it was absolutely correct, it needed to go
However, I was using it on my userpage. I know thats very minor!! But I would like the source code, or something similar, so I can restore it there - not as a template, just for myself. Of course I'll make it be accurate (as other users pointed out, it was factually incorrect)
I'm working off the advice of some helpful users on the wikimedia discord who told me this is my only option. I really hope you'll consider my request! Thank you very much for reading. Cmrc23 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ16:21, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, the infobox got skipped on the first (I'll get that fixed going forward) but the edit itself is a valid genfix. What's wrong with the second one? Primefac (talk) 18:47, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's a valid change, yes, despite not doing what the edit summary suggests (in other words, it's not ideal but it's not something that needs to be reverted). I have acknowledged that issue. Kindly answer my question please. Primefac (talk) 18:58, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Your bot is making changes that it hasn't approved. Just because they're correct if a human would make them doesn't mean the bot can make them. And under the description that it doesn't make and these changes are fake, it presents them as correct.
My bot runs with genfixes enabled, so yes, there will be genfixes on the page in addition to changes to the infobox. There was an issue with the commented-out code on the page that was causing the bot to skip fixing the infobox, which I have now rectified. So yes, there will be some edits without changes to the infobox - I appreciate you bringing that to my attention, and it has now been rectified. Do you have any other substantive concerns? Primefac (talk) 19:37, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For Task 30, it was discussed after the first trial (The genfixes were thrown in during tasks 28 and 29, and are just AWB's standard genfixes). I very rarely run my tasks without genfixes enabled, and those tend to be explicitly indicated. Primefac (talk) 19:53, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ah. You're allowed to do it indirectly. Directly, it's not even strictly a statement. Then why do we have it: Function overview or a line with "Approved.". … Confusing, one thing is written and another is the interpretation. I'll still answer your rhetorical: they'll think the bot isn't behaving, and they'll raise the issue with the botop. The botop should then fix it, and all will be right with the world. Primefac (talk) 20:30, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, the PrimeBOT edits changing template fields e.g. imagesize to image_size (amongst others) is failing to check if the correct field name is already present. This is causing a number of articles to appear in the duplicate parameter error category - Category:Articles using duplicate arguments in template calls. Can you run the bot again please and remove the empty duplicate fields and manually fix populated duplicates? Thanks - X201 (talk) 07:35, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Speedy deletion criteria G15 has been renamed from "LLM-generated pages without human review" to "Unambiguously LLM-generated pages" and has an additional sign of detection added to it following a RfC.
See the last few lines of #IB Settlement above; I just got frustrated and rather than attempt to figure out which blank param was causing the duplication error, I just decided to remove them all. It wasn't the best way to do it, but it's not like those parameters can't be re-added if necessary. Primefac (talk) 17:06, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I see you've moved the various GA pages; I don't recall exactly what happened last time but it certainly broke GAN, so I'm assuming it will break it again. I know I promised to get the bot ready for this change, but I haven't done so. I am away from the computer where I can make any changes to the bot as well. Can you keep an eye on bot's GAN related edits and if things are breaking please reverse all the moves? Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.

Heya Primefac! Just wanted to give you a heads up that I've been using your infobox cleanup code for a bit with PhuzBot, thank you very much for that code! I did run into one tiny issue, where parameters that have a forward slash in them, such as |jr/sr= are silently eaten by the code. This is because of a missing / in the regular expression. Setting aside whether a parameter with a slash complies with MOS:INFOBOXNAME, the fact is there are infoboxes with these parameters ({{Infobox officeholder}}, for one), and silently eating parameters is less than ideal.
I'd recommend changing:
private static readonly Regex param = new Regex(@"\|\s*([\w0-9_ -]+?)\s*=([^|}]*)");
to
private static readonly Regex param = new Regex(@"\|\s*([\w0-9_ /-]+?)\s*=([^|}]*)");
I've made this change in my instances, and would recommend that you do the same. Ordinarily, I would just be bold, but I didn't want to edit your code without giving you the heads up. Thanks again! phuzion (talk) 19:37, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Infobox climber: 3 rules wait because the template still accepts their old names, |medals=, |medals-expand= and |worlds=. That is normal: they start working once the template drops those names. If a rule is backwards, swap its names.
Huh, neat. I think I missed a lot of those because I kept forgetting to check the aliases in the wrapper code, so there will likely be more. Glad to see the bot is performing well! Primefac (talk) 21:40, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Primefac, I was wondering when approving this if you thought this task was a task to operate for 10 months daily from January to October 2026 (what I intended) or a task to operate for ten months each year daily (which I did not intend). Hey Primefac! My watchlist sometimes floods with these depending on how many drafts I review, which I find annoying lol. It really does make it more difficult for me to monitor my watchlist because I do try to keep an eye out for messages on draft talk pages and I have also missed messages on User talk pages. However, I am not familiar with AWB rules or exactly the purpose/importance of these changes so wanted to run it by you to get your thoughts.
