Licensing
[edit]
This image is of a board game cover, and the copyright for it is most likely held by the publisher of the board game. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of board game covers
- to illustrate the board game in question,
- where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information,
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information.
Fair use rationale
[edit]
This image has been checked by a third party against the articles in which it appears. It meets the following fair-use criteria for use in the article Advanced Civilization:-
- No free alternative possible
- If this is a promotional image from the company, then any "user-supplied" image whose sole purpose was clearly to represent the same copyrighted box/item art (and nothing else, and with no significant artistic input- i.e. a "mechanical" reproduction, whether by scanner or camera) would likely have the same restrictions.
- Is being used to demonstrate the product and/or its marketing
- Serves to demonstrate the product being discussed rather than being used in a solely decorative manner.
- Does not deprive company of ability to make money in any way
- Is not being used in misleading or misrepresentative manner
- Copyright in the artwork is likely to be owned by Hasbro, the games publishers or the graphic artist responsible.
