Category:CS1 errors: generic title
- This category is hidden on its member pages—unless the corresponding user preference (Appearance → Show hidden categories) is set.
- These categories are used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention en masse" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience.
- These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or subcategories into a larger, more efficient list (discriminated by classifications).
- Typically, tracking categories are automatically populated by templates invoked in pages or by the MediaWiki software (see Special:TrackingCategories for an overview of the latter).
This is a tracking category for CS1 citations that have invalid generic values in |title=.
Cite uses generic title
Articles are listed in this category when Module:Citation/CS1 identifies template |title= parameters that use place-holder titles. Such titles may have been provided by bots or other tools that are unable to identify the source's correct title. Pages in this category should only be added by Module:Citation/CS1.
CS1|2 maintains a short list of 'titles' that are typically not the title of the cited source. Some examples are:
404are you a robothugedomains.cominternet archive wayback machinelog into facebooklogin • instagramno title– various formspage not foundredirecting...subscribe to readunknown– various formsusurped titlewayback machinewebcite query resultwebsite is for salewikiwix's cache
If you are aware of other common place-holder titles, please report them at Help talk:Citation Style 1, so that they can be added to the list.
To resolve this error, replace the place-holder title with the source's actual title.
False positives are possible. When the name is valid, wrap the parameter value in the accept-this-as-written markup:
|title=((404th Fighter Aviation Regiment))
Please do not use this markup when it is not appropriate.
Pages with this error are automatically placed in Category:CS1 errors: generic title.[a]
