CBS All Access says the weekend combo of the season two Star Trek: Discovery premiere and Sunday’s AFC Championship Game pushed new subscriber sign-ups and unique viewers to record levels.
According to CBS Interactive, CBS All Access added more subscribers in a single weekend than ever before, breaking the previous record set during the 2017 series premiere of Star Trek: Discovery by +72%. In addition, this weekend also set a new record for unique viewers on CBS All Access.
Specific numbers were not released.
“The return of our biggest original series hit, Star Trek: Discovery and this weekend’s AFC Championship Game have propelled CBS All Access to new record-breaking heights,” said Marc DeBevoise, President and Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive.
The AFC Championship Game marked the most streamed football game on CBS All Access to date, surpassing last year’s game by +158% in streams, +139% in time spent and +103% in average minute audience on CBS All Access platforms.
It was a football bump… if the numbers for STD were good they’d post them.. STD was released on Thursday…. yet they talk about WEEKEND subscriptions the AFC Championship on Sunday, which was the cause for the surge in subscriptions, people sign up BEFORE a show airs, not after…
This is like selling a bundle containing a brand new iPhone and a used syringe and then, when people flock to buy the phone, claiming that demand for used syringes is sky-high.
It’s spin. I understand why CBS would manipulate their figures like this but why exactly are Deadline participating in the charade?
Notice how CBS failed to give specific numbers?
Releasing percentages rather than actual figures means they are intentionally being ambiguous.
I am so Happy DIscovery is doing great in ratings. It’s the best Star Trek ever. I love it! The haters are losing…..
If this is the “best Trek EVAR” then you’ve either never seen Star Trek, or you live in a state where recreational weed is legal.
The increases come from the football program & will stay high through the Super Bowl. After that expect cancellations. Sorry John, but Discovery is still a disaster. Also, be very wary when streaming services give you subscriber numbers; rarely do they tell you how many people cancel, especially when the free trial expires.
