MDG acquires Kadira APM
What’s next for the best performance monitoring tool for Meteor apps
I’m excited to announce that Meteor Development Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Kadira APM product.
Since Arunoda’s announcement last December that Kadira would be shutting down, we’ve explored a number of options to ensure continuity and a bright future for Meteor’s best application performance tool. Unsurprisingly, many Meteor developers have told us that Kadira is the most valuable tool they use to scale, tune, and analyze their apps. I’m delighted where we’ve landed — bringing Kadira APM under the MDG umbrella makes a lot of sense as part of our commitment to the Meteor platform and developer community.
We’re working closely now with Arunoda and a number of Kadira customers. If you’d like to get early access to our efforts, please let us know. In the coming weeks, we’ll open things up to everyone and organize a transition off the old Kadira system.
I hope you’re as excited as we are. This agreement puts Meteor APM on solid footing, lets us respond even faster to customer requests, and opens up many opportunities for us to coordinate improvements across Meteor, Galaxy, and Kadira that help teams with critical applications in production.
Stay tuned as there will be more to share soon.

As a followup, some answers to questions that came up:
How do I continue using Kadira going forward?
APM has long been one of the most requested features by Galaxy customers. In mid-April, we are going to deliver an integration of Kadira that gives the thousands of customers running their apps on Galaxy a one-click way to get great performance and monitoring features. Starting with this integration, we’re going to keep investing in APM features as a core part of our Galaxy roadmap. At the same time, we will also release the existing Kadira codebase under an open source license that will allow anyone to modify and run Kadira in their own environment.
Will MDG maintain or support the open source release of Kadira?
No, we will release the source code to the current Kadira APM product under an open source license, but we do not plan to maintain or extend that codebase. We’ll be seeking potential maintainers of this community-led Kadira project.
How much will the new Meteor APM solution cost?
Meteor APM will be part of an enhanced tier of Galaxy. Pricing will scale with usage — just like Galaxy containers today — and be comparable to other APM products. More details coming in mid-April!
Will MDG maintain other open source Kadira packages?
No, we have only acquired the assets related to Kadira APM. Other Kadira packages remain as independent open source projects.
