I’ve been using Unread for a couple weeks now and it’s great. Awesome UI, clean and readable. And it has Mac and iOS widgets, woohoo! The only feature I miss (from Apple News app) is a History feed/folder, but I’ll figure out a workaround. The free plan is generous, but I subbed to Premium to support the developer. Pricing is very reasonable compared to the mainstream RSS apps, and Unread does everything I need. I emailed a question to the developer and got a prompt, understandable response. I’ve been overwhelmed trying to keep up with news. Unread is the help I needed :)
Love it but might switch back to Reeder

I love and adore this app, and recently paid for a year which I have no regrets about and like supporting indie app development. However, I might switch back to the dying Reeder for two reasons:1) No Google Reader-style shortcuts (J/K pervious/next, M mark read/unread, S star.) Would also love an easy way to edit those (I don’t use QWERTY so want to remap them to those finger positions on DVORAK/Colemak). macOS doesn’t let you add shortcuts for single-key shortcuts, and Modifier+Key is too much when kicked back leisurely reading with no hands on the keyboard.2) On iOS, text weirdly goes behind the Dynamic Island, while Reeder adds a bar to the UI to section off the island so text isn’t around it. I feel uneasy when text is there like that.

The keyboard shortcuts you listed (J/K, M/S) are there. They are not the default keyboard shortcuts and therefore are not visible in the menu, but they work. Under the Help menu there is a Keyboard Navigation article that lists other hidden keyboard shortcuts as well.On iOS you can get the bar over the dynamic island by turning off Full-Screen Reading. This is available under Settings -> Advanced.Thank you for using Unread.
Simply the best

I have tried just about every RSS reader for Mac, iPad and iPhone. Unread is far and away my favorite. The design helps me focus on the content, not the interface. The article actions allow me to save posts for later with a double tap of my finger. And the latest update now allows full articles to display from my New York Times subscription. Outstanding app by a terrific developer.
So good!

I have been a free and paid Unread user for at least 4-5 years now. I really like the UI as it fit in really well with the Apple aesthetic. The swipe options/actions are stellar. And I love the level of settings and options. I was so excited to see Unread for Mac. If you like apps like Things3 and Bear, you will love Unread.
Unread 5.1 adds these improvements and more:
• Syncing with Birchfeed, a new web-based RSS reader and syncing service.
• A Quick Reads article Action
SYNCING WITH BIRCHFEED
This update adds the ability to sync with Birchfeed accounts. Birchfeed is a great new web-based RSS reader and syncing service by Matt Birchler.
Unread syncs with Birchfeed using its implementation of the Google Reader API. It was already possible to sync with Birchfeed using its implementation of the Fever API, but using a Birchfeed account adds these capabilities:
• The ability to subscribe to feeds, organize feed subscriptions, and unsubscribe from feeds from within Unread.
• The ability to subscribe to feeds using the Subscribe in Unread share sheet extension.
• The ability to mark read on scroll.
• The ability to mark all articles above or below a specific article in an article list as read.
QUICK READS ARTICLE ACTION
This update adds an article action for Quick Reads. Quick Reads is a read later service, also by Matt Birchler, with great capabilities such as text to speech and highlighting. Unread’s article action makes it easy to save an article or a link inside an article to Quick Reads.
Like Unread’s other premium article actions, the Quick Reads article action requires a subscription to Unread Premium.
ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS
• Unread’s Instapaper article action now uses version 2 of the Instapaper API.
• This update fixes a bug that prevented article list images from loading for some articles in FreshRSS accounts and Inoreader accounts.
• This update removes the “us.inoreader.com” and “jp.inoreader.com” options for the Inoreader Host (under Advanced Settings). Inoreader deprecated those hosts, and is going to redirect them to “www.inoreader.com”.
• Unread’s privacy policy has been updated with a link to the privacy policies of Birchfeed and Quick Reads.
