Mac Sequence Diagram makes it easy to create UML 2.0 style sequence diagrams from nothing more than plain text (and a sprinkling of emoji). Type on the left, and the diagram draws itself on the right as you go.
Write in the app's own simple syntax, or in Mermaid, the syntax used by GitHub, GitLab and many documentation tools. The app detects which one you are using.
DIAGRAMS
• Participants, with aliases and a fixed order
• Participant boxes, with optional background colours
• Signals, self-signals, found signals and lost signals
• Multiple arrow line and arrowhead styles
• Multi-line signal messages and notes
• Notes and references (ref frames)
• Nested interaction frames: loop, alt, opt, par, critical, break and more
• Nested activation boxes
• Automatic signal numbering
• Titles and comments
• Custom colour schemes and fonts
• Participant names in Chinese and Japanese
EDITOR
• Syntax highlighting
• Plain-English error feedback on every line, with one-click fixes
• Keyword and participant name auto-completion
• Click the diagram to find its line in the text
• Detachable and collapsible editor
• Canvas zoom up to 14x
• Light and Dark modes
EXPORT AND TOOLS
• Export to PDF, PNG and SVG
• Export from the command line
• Plain-text files that work well with version control
• A companion command-line tool, msd, that checks, fixes and converts diagrams (see the Help)
• A full Help book with syntax references for both syntaxes
Requires a Mac with Apple silicon.
Feedback, issues and suggestions are welcome.

المزيد Been looking for a while for something like this to generate sequence diagrams. Everything I was using before was like Gliphy, which made one drag/drop graphics, drag items to expand them, etc, which is a pain. This app lets me, a programmer, create sequence diagrams programatically with a DSL, which greatly increases productivity. These diagrams can then be exported to images or PDFs for sharing, or by the save file for collaboration. The only thing that this app is missing (which I was debating a 4-star review bescause of, because it is annoying and potentially problatic for larger diagrams with frequent edits), is that one cannot highlight multiple lines and hit 'tab' to increase the indentation. Doing so results in behavior like TextEdit, where the highlighted text is deleted and replaced with a tab character. Not sure if this is intentional (simple text editor), but I would have liked to see if behave like an IDE and increase the indentation for the highlighted lines.
استجابة المطور Many thanks for the kind review, Rlatic; it is greatly appreciated. Please highlight multiple lines then use the "Editor -> Shift Right (CMD+])" menu option, to indent multiple lines. I sincerely hope that helps. -- Mike.

If you want sequence diagrams this is the way to go. Not only can you devise all the basic flows, you do so with a interpreted “compiler” window that processes a set of simple commands/syntax. You might think this is round-about compared to directly manipulating graphical elements, but I find somewhat to my surprise that thinking about sequence construction using the app’s syntax is a much cleaner and more clear approach to design—and the drawing is done automatically and with pretty good aesthetic values too. This is a very unusual example of both perfect fit of execution to the problem space as well as providing enough, but not too much capability and without any missing. When you use a tool like this, the fit is so precise that tool use sort of disappears from your immediate consciousness and you just solve the problem. Tremendously productive, I learned in in about 15 minutes. Very very good work.

Either you need sequence diagrams or you don't, but if you do use them then this is pretty ideal. Can't tell you how much easier it is to script out the sequence than it is to try and drag/drop your way to a diagram using a graphical tool. Enormous time saver putting everything into the form of a script actually helps me think through the interaction. Also, because the tool is based around text files, you can do all of the normal text file things with them (manage them in git, check for diffs, versioning, etc). Incredibly useful. My only suggestion / request would be that the developer build out some of the other UML diagrams using exactly the same approach. Personally I'd love to get something like this which would let me built out activity diagrams and state diagrams as well.

This app does what I need, was easy to learn, and I've encountered no major bugs or stability issues. You 'write' your diagram in a very simple domain-specific language. Don't let that put you off, there's no real learning curve: it's very easy to copy and adapt from the excellent template provided. Your diagram is then rendered automatically as you go, and you can (of course) export as a PDF and such. It's a novel approach and I love it. If you're someone who appreciates the elegance and efficiency of text-based interfaces, you'll probably like it, too.

• Names - Participant names without quotes can now use accented letters, Cyrillic and other scripts, emoji and hyphens, such as José, Мария and Auth-Service, and names that start with a keyword, such as endpoint or titleBar, now work.
• What's New - A What's New window now shows the main changes after you update the app.
• Command line - The new msd export command makes PNG, PDF and SVG files through the app, and msd --help now says that msd is a companion to the app; msd now has a free-to-use licence and runs on Macs with Apple silicon.
• Diagnostics - Style lines with a typing mistake, a colour that is not six hex digits, a stray #end style or style lines outside a #style block now get one clear message and, where possible, a fix button that msd fix also applies.
• Diagnostics - A misspelt end note, end ref, end box or sequenceDiagram now gets "Did you mean ...?" with a fix, and a keyword with nothing after it shows its error on its own line.
• Mermaid - A destroy now applies to the next message, a later declaration of a known participant updates its alias and kind, and the missing-header message appears only for Mermaid syntax and opens the Mermaid help page.
• Export - SVG export now matches the canvas for note alignment, colour opacity and lines, and the app tells you when an export, copy or print has no data.
• Privacy - You can now turn off usage analytics.
• Documents - The app now asks before a reload replaces unsaved edits, Windows (CRLF) files no longer gain a blank line after every line, and documents keep their Mermaid or native type.
• Polish - Links in diagrams open only http, https and mailto addresses; comments inside a participant box and comments that start with "style" no longer give errors; ||1.5|| spacing works in every locale; the editor wraps lines inside the visible pane and keeps its scroll position; the participant HUD shows only when the headers are out of view; the Acknowledgements window no longer crashes; command-line export waits for large diagrams and exits with an error when it fails and the reference sheet shows text justification markers before the colon.
26.11.01 قبل 3 أيام
• Error feedback - The editor now tells you what is wrong with a diagram, and how to fix it:
◦ Every line with a problem gets an icon in the gutter and a wavy underline.
◦ Click the icon for a plain-English explanation, an example of correct syntax and a link to the help.
◦ Where the fix is safe, such as adding a missing end, one click fixes it.
◦ Move between problems with Editor ▸ Show Error Details (⌘'), Next Diagnostic (⌥⌘') and Previous Diagnostic (⇧⌥⌘').
◦ VoiceOver reads the icons and says how many problems there are.
• AI agents and automation - A new companion command-line tool, msd, lets AI coding agents, scripts and continuous integration check, fix and convert diagrams without opening the app. It reports the same errors and fixes as the editor, and prints a syntax reference written for agents. See Help ▸ The msd command-line tool.
• Requirements - Now requires a Mac with Apple silicon.
• Diagrams - Frames now enclose their side notes and refs, frames that hold only notes or refs are drawn, and an else divider no longer cuts through a nested frame.
• Notes - A native note or ref body now keeps its spaces, line breaks, colons and keywords.
• Mermaid - Comments and front matter before sequenceDiagram are accepted.
• Help - The help book has been updated with refreshed screenshots.
• Polish - General improvements all round!
26.10.01 24 أكتوبر

Mermaid syntax support arrives in Sequence Diagram!
• You can now open, edit, and save Mermaid sequence diagram files (.mmd) right alongside native (.msd) files.
• The editor auto-detects Mermaid syntax, provides full syntax highlighting and auto-completion, and every Mermaid construct exports cleanly to PNG, PDF, and SVG. If you already use Mermaid elsewhere, you'll feel right at home.
• Highlights include :-
• 7 new participant shapes
• critical, break and option interaction frames
• entity codes, clickable links, and created participants
• Diagram canvas now lets you choose a custom font
• The CLI export now infers format from output file's extension.
• New and improved Help Book pages with annotated screenshots.
• An all-new Reference sheet panel
26.02.02 3 مارس
• Adds an official Help Book with topic pages and dark mode support.
• Acknowledgements window is now resizable with zooming shortcuts (Cmd+/Cmd-/Cmd+0)
• Adds a new Reference Sheet panel (Help menu) with a quick-reference guide to all DSL keywords.
• Clicking a keyword in the Reference Sheet opens the relevant help page.
• Now requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later.

1.8.2 23/09/2020
