This app does not record, collect, or send your data anywhere — for three reasons:
1. There's absolutely no need, it's just a feed of your own web camera.
2. I wouldn't do that, that's just creepy.
3. And most importantly: I don't even have the programming skills to do that. Seriously, but thanks for thinking that I did!

If you EVER have to jump on a Zoom, Google Meet, or do any tuts or explainer videos, THIS IS A MUST HAVE APP. How many times have you had to jump through hoops with PhotoBooth, hoping feverishly that you can check your appearance before that meeting? It's not fun. Besides, that whole clunky process is eliminated BEAUTIFULLY with the elegant, essential app known as Hand Mirror. Hats off to the dev for making this app (which should be standard with all Macs) available. With it, you can easily check your mic level, appearance, and have a useful variety of window options. VERY handy for tutorials, video reviews, explainer vids, and meetings. Works perfectlcly with Apple Silicon on MacBook Pro!

I love Hand Mirror. At first it seemed like a silly concept for an app, but over the last year I’ve had it installed I have come to use it almost daily. I am a streamer, so it’s nice to use as a quick check on what the camera sees when arranging or moving stuff, instead of booting up the streaming software fully. One click and boom - clear vision of what the camera sees. Also for other more self-absorbed things, like checking my hair or make up, silently judging myself, etc, it’s so quick and effective. A surprisingly useful little app. Highly recommend!
How is this not standard with all Macs?

This is one of those tools that you won't know you need until you've ever been stuck in a situation where you needed it. Long story short, I am a pharmacy student that occasionally has to record a presentation as an assignment with a live recording of my face somewhere in the corner of the presentation. I've tried everything from OBS to Camtasia (great software, just either takes hella time to set up or are very pricy). This has to be easiest option to make sure you have a recording of yourself and your presentation!
Very useful! (perhaps buggy)

This is a great utility app that I use to a) help make sure my appearance is presentable before video calls and b) to adjust the things in the background that I stage before the same video calls. I found that the app couldn't access my secondary camera (Logitech USB cam) after waking my computer, though it could show the built-in camera on my MBP. After a few days of not caring, I noticed that Hand Mirror was taking up 5 GB of memory. I quit the app and relaunched and it seems to be fine and can access the external webcam now.

Thanks so much for the review! Your secondary camera *should* work with today's update, and the memory leak — oops — I'll try to reproduce and fix it soon!
• When your free snaps run out, hovering over the camera shows "Get Snaps with Hand Mirror Plus" instead of the Snap button disappearing
• Your window mask (square or circle) is kept when you switch between Smart Window and Popover
• External cameras that show a black feed at their advertised resolution, such as some GoPro and webcam-mode cameras, now drop to a lower resolution automatically. Built-in and iPhone cameras always stay at full resolution
Fixed
• Picking a Sharpie color now works. Clicking a color used to close the picker without changing the ink, and could close the snap along with it
• The snap preview stays behind the camera window when you click it, draw on it, or open the color picker
• With auto-save on, taking two snaps in quick succession now saves both. The second one could previously save a copy of the first "Saved" only appears when a snap was actually saved. If saving fails, the preview says "Couldn't save" and the Save buttons come back
• With Manual position on, the Smart Window stays where you put it when you change other settings
• A Smart Window you dragged into place no longer moves down each time a setting changes
• Fixed the Smart Window opening in the bottom-left corner when your selected display couldn't be found
• Fixed a closed Smart Window reappearing after taking a snap
• Fixed an empty bubble window appearing when closing the popover by clicking the menu bar icon after taking a snap
