Signal - Private Messenger
Ratings & Reviews
I love this app, I never have any complaints except for one. I use Signal to send photos and videos to family and while the photos are perfectly crisp & HD, every single video sends in low quality. I’d love for a truly HD video option to be added, even if you have to manually select it each time you send one. I want family to be able to actually see the twinkle in my baby’s eye and see all of the micro expressions he makes. It’d make my year and I’d happily donate $10 if the addition is added.
So far the app has been great. I have several different chat groups within the app with some being more important than others. A huge feature missing is the ability to prioritize specific group chats. Allowing for alerts/notifications to bypass the phone being in silent mode or set to do not disturb. I’m sure this feature would be huge for a lot of people. Hopefully the developers can make it happen soon.
And when I saw sometimes, I mean it happens everyday, just at random intervals. Some days are worse than others. It’s just difficult to carry on a conversation when the other person suddenly stops responding for an hour or more only to find out later your message to them literally took that long to be delivered.
This app has, by far, surpassed any other discreet/secure messaging (for free) that I’ve ever heard of. I’m a huge fan of the Proton group, so I openly recommend it, but first, I always, always insist on Signal. I’ve used it for years, and the only problems I’ve ever had (MAYBE twice) were my own failing to update the app to enable continuity of it being secure. Highly recommend, and already recommend to anyone I actually want to communicate with.
This app is fine for usability in most ways, but it gets very annoying when trying to message an individual in a large group. You can look at the full list of names and scroll to find your person, but you cannot search that list of names. Also the list is not arranged alphabetically. I’ve had to go on scrolling hunts way too many times.TLDR: please add the ability to search for individuals in a group message.
I love Signal and have been using it for a while now. However, there is one thing that has been bothering me: I would like to suggest that we be able to add an account with a different phone number within the same app. Currently, you have to delete your existing account before registering with a different number. I hope you consider my request. Thank you!
So when I mute somebody and I don’t wanna talk to them, they could still call me and ring my phone. It’s annoying as hell there ought to be a way when I mute someone other than blocking them to get them to be quiet when I mute someone I expect them to be completely mute.Plus, it seems like there’s no instant way to send a video to someone photos sure but if I wanna actually send a video to someone, I have to record a video and then move it. It’s a little thing but it’s annoying.
Absolutely amazing. Syncs nicely with the desktop app, amazing dedication to privacy. Only 2 flaws: 1) disappearing message settings reset after the safety number changes. It goes back to what it set to after you send a message though. 2) you can’t use another phone as your second linked device. I have an older iPhone without a cell plan I use as a secondary device at home and I can’t link Signal to it.
The encryption and added security aside, this is just a great tool for organizing group chats. I have to text a lot for work on my regular messages. My friends and I all talk on signal so I’m able to keep my work texts and social texts separate. It makes it easier to have chats with people with androids without the tedious green bubble texts and issues that come up from that.
I would love a way to organize chats on mobile. If not folders, could we at least use hashtags to tag groups and sort by tag?I’m not expecting the channel capabilities of WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord, but the number of chats adds up. A way to sort them and share how they’re sorted, or tag a group for everyone to help with sorting, would do wonders for my messy chat list.
