Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

They do not store and sell your data effectively as their mission statement, instead relying on donations to operate. I adore this organization. Completely free, perfectly reliable, spectacular intuitive interface. Free to use, but you might just throw a few euro their way a couple times a year if you'd rather that than a corporation that records who you talk to, when, how frequently, and then links that information with what you look at online on 3 other apps you use and sells it to whomever wants to buy it for an obscene profit they THEN use to develop things like glasses that use facial recognition to track your movements in public spaces. Or not, up to you :)
Great app, one big problem
Severe_Nerd_Damage
I love this app, all its privacy features, plus layout and in a way it’s simplicity. But I have one problem that is a huge letdown. After restoring my phone from iCloud I found out that all my messages including chat history is LOST. This is by design at the moment and not because I made a mistake. Signals FAQ says that at the moment recovering history after iPhone restore is not supported. This is incredibly inconvenient and makes me very anxious about using Signal in any meaningful way. I hope this can be rectified soon, but I don’t understand why is this is not a feature yet. It is the same phone, same account same phone number… I cannot see a reason why this could not be implemented. Signal says that all my messages are stored locally on the phone so it would make perfect sense to be able to recover it from my local/iCloud backup. Developers please fix this!
Privacy

Never before in history has the Right to Privacy been more at risk than now. Suppression of Free Speech has become the norm in Ireland and all over the World. Signal taking over from WhatsApp is just another sign that our basic democratic rights are being swept aside. Enforcement of vaccination with an unsafe untested drug is another step. We stand up now or we spend the rest of our lives as sheep led by treasonous political leaders. Erin go bráth!
Overall decent but has a few bugs
randomnicknamebcihaveto
Like the title says! Main bug being on the iOS version you can’t play a video while on a call (either before sending in the preview or within the chat - whether you’ve sent it or received it). Also not fond of the update with the move of the camera flip button. Placement is fine but don’t like how the icon is constantly present throughout the call - could possibly change it to be there when the screen is tapped and the other icons appear?
• This update introduces a new custom mute option so you can easily specify the exact date and time when you would like to end your moment of silence for notifications in a specific chat.
