New music in your folders, found. A folder you import is now watched: albums you copy into it later appear in your library on their own, with no need to import the folder again. Music added on this Mac shows up within seconds, a drive is checked each time you connect it, and a network folder when Fidelia opens and every few hours. Folders your library already lives in are listed in Settings › General, ready to watch — nothing is watched until you choose it. Tracks you delete from your library stay deleted, and renaming or rearranging folders keeps your tracks and playlists instead of adding them twice. Add to Playlist, everywhere. Right-click any track, any album cover on the Wall or an album’s page, or the cover of what’s playing, and choose Add to Playlist, or start a new playlist from there. File › New Playlist from Selection (⇧⌘N) makes a playlist of the tracks you’ve selected. Fidelia tells you what it added, and which tracks were already in the playlist. One streamer, shared. Pick a streamer that’s already playing — from Fidelia on your iPhone or another Mac, or another UPnP app — and Fidelia shows what’s on it and whose it is, and the player’s controls act on that music. Choose something to play and it takes over, and an up-to-date Fidelia it took over from steps aside instead of competing. If the streamer stops partway through a song on its own, Fidelia stops too instead of moving on to another song, and Play picks up where you were. Your Mac stays awake for the album. While your music plays on a streamer, your Mac no longer goes to sleep partway through. The display still sleeps as usual, and closing the lid still puts your Mac to sleep. Imports you can follow and cancel. The X on the Importing tracks message now cancels the import, and nothing from a cancelled import is added. Anything you add while one runs waits its turn — the message says how many are queued — and when an import ends, the message stays up to say how many tracks it imported, or that they were already in your library. Your covers insist: stay with their albums. Changing an album's title, artist or album artist in Get Info keeps its cover, and deleting some of an album's tracks leaves the rest with theirs. Drop a cover into Get Info. The cover at the top of Get Info now takes a new one: drop an image file on it, or drag one straight from your browser, and it's saved with your other edits when you click Save — for the whole album, or for every album in a multi-song selection. Music app tracks keep the cover Music gives them. Replaced tracks, found. When you replace tracks in the Music app with new files — an iTunes purchase swapped for its lossless version, say — Fidelia finds the new files on its next sync. Date Added on the Wall. The Album Wall's sort control adds Date Added, so the albums you added most recently can lead the grid. Your library, ready in minutes. Importing a large library is many times faster, in every format — tens of thousands of tracks are in your library in minutes. Your streamer, awake when you press play. Fidelia keeps its own picture of what your network streamer is doing. A box that has gone to sleep is shown as away and woken by your next Play, and it stays your chosen output until you pick another. A seek starts it playing from the point you asked for, Back and the scrubber work once an album has finished, and the volume knob follows the level the box itself is holding. A track is known by where it lives. A music server gives every track an internal name, and some servers mint new ones each time they re-index their library — the same track, called something else by the afternoon. Fidelia filed by that name, so a server re-indexing while Fidelia read it could enter the same music into your library again and again, and the stored library kept every copy: enough of it, on a server that re-indexes often, to crowd the Mac's memory the next time Fidelia opened. And when a server passed an old name on to a different track, the newcomer took the older one's place, so an album could quietly come up a track short. Fidelia now recognises a track by where its bytes are, which is not something a server rearranges. Whatever it calls that track today, it stays the row it has always been, and nothing a re-index shuffles can displace something else. A restless server is read once. Reading a network music server's library, Fidelia remembered every listing it was handed — and a server can hand over the same track many times: once per index it publishes, and, if it is still scanning its drive while Fidelia reads it, once again per re-listing as its shelves shift underneath the walk. On a server that would not settle, that remembering could grow for hours, until the Mac itself ran short of memory. Fidelia now keeps each track once, however many times a server lists it, and a reading that cannot finish because the library keeps changing sets down what it has found and picks the rest up when the server settles. A streamer is told what it is being sent. We compared everything a renderer can see, byte for byte, against the one server proven to play that box at full speed; those two were the only differences left, and both are now declared, for every format. When a stream to a renderer ends, the diagnostic log now says how and why — the box closed it, a newer connection took over, the station went off the air — and how long the box had gone without accepting a byte. A stall that used to show as one request and then silence has a name. Playing bit-perfect to a renderer, the main display names the format again. On that path the box fetches the file itself and Fidelia's own engine never decodes it, and the readout had only ever asked the engine. It now shows what the library already knew. The sidebar stays off the buttons. The Library sidebar's rows used to scroll straight up under the window's close, minimise and zoom buttons. They now stop at a hairline that appears only while something is beneath it, exactly level with the rule across the rest of the window. It was so on every macOS; a long sidebar on macOS 26 was the first to show it. A cover is never another artist's. Finding a cover online checked the album's title and not its artist, so a differently named band's identically titled record could win for having a picture. The artist is checked now. A cover you remove stays removed across launches; it used to be fetched straight back. A purchase that is waiting says so. Apple sometimes holds a purchase for approval — a card verified in Wallet, Ask to Buy, a bank's check. The buy screen used to look as though nothing had happened, which invites buying again. Music that keeps playing. A DAC asked to change tracks while it is still letting go of the last one can stumble for a fraction of a second. Fidelia used to take that as a verdict on the track and skip it — then skip the next one for the same reason. It now asks the device again before giving up, so a moment's hesitation costs you nothing. Streaming plays through, not just starts. Sending a track to a streamer, Fidelia says up front how many bytes are coming. If reading the file hesitated part way — a drive pausing for breath — the transfer used to stop there, quietly, and your streamer sat waiting for a tail that never arrived: a few seconds of music, then silence. Fidelia now asks the file again, and says so plainly if it ever cannot. Many M4A files — most of what iTunes ripped or sold for years — keep their index at the end of the file, which a streamer must fetch before it can decode a note. Fidelia sends those files with the index first, byte for byte the same audio, so every streamer reads them straight through like a FLAC. On a Mac with both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connected, Fidelia asks macOS which connection it will actually use, rather than choosing by name. Album art and processed streams travel the same way as the music. A big library stays quick to move around in. Your own tracks are on screen within seconds of launch, however big the rest is — anything mirrored from Music.app or a server fills in behind them.
