Goodnotes: AI Notes, Docs, PDF
Ratings & Reviews
App Store Editors’ Notes
This digital notepad and PDF markup tool covers all the bases. Create notes with your keyboard or Apple Pencil: the app transforms your hand-drawn shapes into perfect ones, and can even convert your handwriting to text.
It’s only been 2 days since I have been using GoodNotes 5 and I love it. The UI is so simple and the organization of folders within folders is amazing. I do wish that good notes did add some templates to folders as they look pretty boring for a student like me who separates each subject using a folder. I also understand how with the continuous updates to the new iPads it is difficult for GoodNotes to keep up with their updates, however they have done a great job when it comes to adding new ideas such as the sharing feature which is still a bit confusing to me at first but starting to get easier and the elements tool bar that saves me a lot of time when drawing a graph. Some more requests I would like to add is the audio recording feature, good notes said it was on their to do list since January 2019 on a Twitter post but hasn’t given any information since, I do also wish that there was a scratch paper option on the iPad for example, when I do a short exam or answering a few questions which takes paper I have to make a completely new notebook goodnotes and then do my work and delete it later on, I think goodnotes can add an option for scratch paper where it will delete after use or delete after a certain amount of time. One last request I have for goodnotes is the improvement on Mac, I am great full that there even is an option on all three platforms but the goodnotes on Mac is certainly more laggy. Otherwise the main platform which is for the iPad is near to perfection when it comes to the features and there are simply no bugs.
GoodNotes is, without a doubt, the best app I have ever tried for note-taking and digital planning. Its intuitive interface, powerful features, and seamless performance make it a must-have tool for anyone looking to digitize their handwritten notes and documents. The subscription is absolutely worth it, offering tremendous value for the price. One of the standout features of GoodNotes is its flexibility in customizing the paper size. Recently, I was able to create a large paper by changing the scale to 4K (3840 x 2160). This allowed me to work on a significantly larger canvas, which was incredibly useful for detailed diagrams and expansive notes. However, there are a couple of enhancements that would make GoodNotes even better: 1. **Infinite Canvas**: Introducing an infinite canvas option would be a game-changer. It would allow users to continuously expand their workspace without having to worry about running out of space, which is particularly beneficial for brainstorming sessions and mind mapping. 2. **Contrast Color Pen Tool**: It would be fantastic to have a pen tool that automatically adjusts its color to contrast with the background color it hovers over. This would ensure maximum visibility and readability of notes, regardless of the background color. Overall, GoodNotes is an exceptional app that has transformed the way I take notes and manage my digital documents. The existing features, combined with the potential improvements, make it a truly indispensable tool for anyone in need of a reliable and versatile note-taking app.
It is very hard for a teacher to be able to share documents with students. Our teacher is not able to send us any documents through Goodnotes because for the fact that students are able to edit and probably delete whatever they want on the document. Teachers are not feeling safe or secure in sending sharing the documents with their students. There’s something that has to be changed. At the same time other stuff also has to be changed. For example, the transfer of pictures and text through the pages could be a lot more smooth, and also there could be a good feature, which is Turning text into handwritten notes. That’s something that’s gonna be similar to Notability another app and there could be an AI in the settings or something like that in which the user could write different letters and sentences for the app to be able to recognize person’s handwriting later on in the Notes themselves and be able to Change the text into handwriting that is similar to the users.
Works great with the Apple Pencil, has the feature of erasing and then switching back to writing tool immediately which makes note taking more efficient. Also has dark mode which I love, it saves battery on your device and it’s less strenuous on your eyes. I’ve taken one star off because the feature of converting handwritten notes to text is not as straight forward as it could be. You have to select the handwritten portion you want to convert, convert to text, copy that text, insert an empty text box and then paste the text into the text box. I was expecting that once you converted the notes, you wouldn’t need to do the copy paste step, it would be more automatic. However I will say that what the app got right is that it can convert the worst handwritings that I’ve tried, and it spell checks very accurately in many languages. On the other hand not all languages are available , but I personally don’t use the app in those languages luckily. I would only take half a star off if I could, I’m satisfied with the app.
I don’t usually write reviews but this app really deserves it. No lag, all the functionality and fantastic choices of edit. Seriously this is how the app is supposed to be made. Even the free version has everything that you need to get started, and the best part, NO ads. I have used free version for a month after which I realized there is nothing better out there. With free version you are limited only to three notebooks, so when I saw the need in more I just made the one time purchase. It’s definitely worth the price and it stays forever (10$). No monthly fees like other apps and no pay to write. If the app is made from then it should definitely look like this one. 10/10. Don’t know why some people complain about the lag. It’s fantastic app and it will never ruin your situation with unexpected popups.
I have purchased this app because I got fed up with notability messy files management. I really wanted an app where it is easy to mange my notes. GoodNotes is a wonderful application. The UI is nice and well thought. The highlighter is much better than the ones I used in notability and OneNotes. There is no shortage of good things I can write about with this app. My biggest complain is the writing experience. There seems to be a noticeable lag between my Apple Pencil movements and the writing that appears on the viewfinder. In addition, I don’t know if it is me or the app, but my writing seems to be much worse than it is with both notability and onenotes. Somehow it is much messier here compared to notability and onenotes. If the Apple Pencil issue is fixed, I would happily give this app a 5 stars since it is really one of the best out there imo.
So good notes is a app where you have the ability to write notes and add stickers and much more, I love how it has no lagging like the other note taking apps, it has NO ADDS which I love so much about good notes, it’s the first time I take fabulous and well looking notes and it’s all thanks to good notes, the thing I dislike about good notes is that for the free version we cannot buy more than 3 books, which is kind of disappointing for people who take loads of notes like me, I struggle with that and I hope good notes improves this disadvantage, I love how you can chose your own fonts and stickers, you can create loads of stickers for your notes to look more creative, again please consider and improve the 3 books and make it unlimited books, thank you and I love note taking with good notes and I hope you all enjoy it too!!!
The typing features are a major anchor in this app. The textbox for starters does not allow the same kind if heading and body text formatting as the full-screen typing mode, plus doesn’t allow bullet list indentation. The full-screen typing mode similarly doesn’t allow custom fonts, and the formatting gets messed up if any text is copy-pasted. These are very basic issues that would be nice to see fixed in an otherwise great app, yet still an app that we’re paying an annual subscription fee for. I’d argue it’s better to focus on these basics before working on more advanced features like AI!
For starters, I am a university student and have been using this application for a little over 4 months. Even writing is very nice, though streaks start to randomly appear if I write while charging my IPad. You can even move entire pages online (so to say) onto your page. And while that is all nice and all, the main issue lies with importing PDFs. As a student, the majority of my notes are actually done on PDFs, and with the current issue of importing a pdf and it printing onto my screen in the wrong size (oversized to the point that part of my pdf is missing), it makes it very hard to use this application to the fullest. While I’m aware that there is a chance that not everyone uses PDFs majorly, for those who do, this could be a real deal breaker. If possible, please fix this issue, as currently, that is the only major issue I have encountered.
I LOVED this app so much and I even told all my friends about it. Everything was going smoothly until a few days after I installed this app. I was taking notes and went to create another “notebook”(as referred to in the app) when SUDDENLY, it tells me i had “Reached my notebook limit.” I rubbed it off and then went to create a “quick note”. I click on it and surprisingly it also says that I have reached my Notebook limit. And this goes for ALL of the features except for making a folder. I find it RIDICULOUS that I could only make ONE notebook and folders. What am I even going to put in my folder when everything is to pay for? Wow. I really thought I had found the perfect app. Although they have good pen tips and they have different shapes and sizes, I was devastated to see that I had been fooled.
Developer ResponseThank you for your review and feedback! It's wonderful to hear how much you loved the app initially and that you even shared it with your friends! We recognize your disappointment regarding the notebook limit and the constraints on creating additional notes. It's understandable to feel let down when expectations aren't met, especially when you were excited about the features. You can draw shapes using the Writing Tool for quick and familiar shape drawing, or try AutoShapes using the Shapes Tool for structured diagrams with support for connectors and embedded text.
