A week later (now that I’ve caught up on emails, and sleep) a couple of further thoughts. Personally, the last few years have been a rollercoaster. From joining SuperAwesome to run a D2C offer called Rukkaz, through the Epic acquisition, building SuperAwesome Gaming, taking SA independent, and an expanded role therein: it has not been dull. But one thing has been clear throughout that. SA is a special company. It is so goddamn hard to bring a new enterprise of scale, energy and purpose into the world. Dylan Collins and Lee Veitch created something truly unique in SA’s first 10 years (and imbued it with all those things, plus a sense of humour). I’m delighted we’re able to give it another chapter. And secondly: goddamn there’s work to be done in this space. SA was founded around the mission of building a safer internet for the younger generation. Catalysed by SA, the industry has made progress over the last decade - but there is still so much more to be done to create a non-toxic, privacy preserving internet for U18s. I’m excited about building both SA’s core and a new generation of products that enable kids to discover and be active in their own digital worlds, in the right way. It’s a new year, and (at least here in London) the winter frost has thawed, there’s sun streaming through the window, and it still feels like day one. We go again.

HE Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah, opened the session with an engaging and inspirational keynote speech. We listened to two beautifully curated panel discussions, the first featuring Saba Al Heialy, Nisreen Shocair, Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, moderated by Nadine Fares Kahil. The panelists discussed a myriad of topics, from the challenges we face to celebrating how far we've come both locally and internationally, concluding with what we hope to see emerge in the future. Our second panel featured Selma Turki and Beatrice Cornacchia, moderated by Micheline Bejjani.
