G’Ra Asim on the Punk Rock Appeal of the WPBL

G’Ra Asim (Baby Got Back Talk, Uppity) contributed an essay to the Nation Magazine on the punk-rock appeal of the Women’s Professional Baseball League.

”A lot of the viral content about being an aging punk or emo kid focuses on nostalgia, as if the upshot of belonging to a forward-thinking subculture is to perseverate on the past. But the skills and instincts that we honed in VFW halls, garages, and church basements are just as easily applicable to the pursuit of gender equity in professional sports. Why settle into being a mark for the contrived cash grabs of your local Emo Nite when you could sublimate your ennui and residual angst into supporting a likeminded subculture like the WPBL instead?

The Financial Times is reporting that Spotify hopes to release an AI product in 2027 that lets subscribers create “remixes” and “covers” for $5 a month.

The product would allow paying subscribers to use AI to create their own versions of popular songs, such as transforming a folk song into a dance track or making one artist appear to cover another’s music.

The timing and pricing have not been finalised and remain subject to change, the people cautioned.

Brian Fallon Talks With Louder Sound

Brian Fallon

Brian Fallon talked with Louder Sound:

Where I come from, there weren’t a lot of opportunities straight off the bat. Nobody knew anybody who was famous. Maybe you knew somebody who could get rid of a body, or an uncle who could shake a guy down if he was bothering you after school, but that was it. The idea of getting out into the world was crazy – I had as much chance of going to the Moon as I did to England. Really pushing through all that is a special thing. Everybody has struggles – tough circumstances, disabilities, mental health issues – but you can always push past what’s in front of you.
